Wife Sent Letter to 'Rachael Ray Show' with Photo of Husband Who Hadn't Shaved in 20 Years
Rachael Ray might be known for her culinary skills and cooking empire, but she is also in the business of changing people’s lives thanks to her daytime TV show.
One such life-changing makeover from February 2016 is making the rounds again on social media, thanks to the emotional response to the transformation.
Willard, Missouri resident Jeffrey Schultz was given the opportunity to have a makeover on the show during a New York City visit in 2016, thanks to a little bit of behind-the-scenes magic from his wife Lori and his mother-in-law.
“My mom had cleaned out her attic and had a bunch of old pictures of my husband when we were dating,” Lori Schultz told the Springfield News-Leader. These photos featured a clean shaven Schultz from several decades ago.
Over their 30 years of marriage, Schultz had gradually let his facial hair grow out until it resulted in the bushy “ZZ Top look” that he sported before the makeover.
“I’m going through basically a midlife crisis,” Schultz would tell Ray on her show. “It’s time to clean it up.”
Lori Schultz sent in two photos of her husband, one current and one from 30 years ago, to submit him for a makeover segment. “Don’t get me wrong, Rachael Ray,” she wrote. “I love my husband inside-out, just help me with the outside.”
According to the Springfield News-Leader, the odds of being chosen for the segment were 1 in 10,000 – yet the Schultzes got the phone call.
On the set of The Rachael Ray Show, Schultz’s makeover was overseen by Kyan Douglas, host of “The American Barber” TV show, and Elena Linares, the owner of RazzleDazzle Barbershop in Miami.
As Ray interviewed Jeff and Lori, it was apparent that this was something he was ultimately doing out of love for his wife. “How far are you willing to go?” Ray asked him.
“She married me with nothing on my face so I’m willing to go that far,” Schultz said.
Linares gave Schultz a short-layered classic haircut, along with a hot lathered shave that created a drastic transformation.
When Schultz and his wife saw the end result, there were tears in their eyes and hugs all around. “I can feel the air on my face,” Schultz joked.
Ray and the audience were ecstatic with the end result and Ray even commented on how handsome Schultz was.
Lori Schultz didn’t recognize her husband when he first came out.
“He looked totally different,” she told the Springfield News-Leader. “Totally. His skin hasn’t seen fresh air for 20 years.“
On the flight back, TSA even questioned if Schultz was the same man on his driver’s license.
Schultz now sports a beard again, although this time he is keeping things a little more under control.
