Welcome to Y'all Street: America's Newest Stock Exchange Opens in Texas

Share

A new stock exchange recently opened in Texas — meaning that “Y’all Street” is about to give Wall Street a run for its money.

The Texas Stock Exchange — also known as the TXSE or the “Tex-ee” — opened on July 31 in Dallas as the first new American stock exchange in decades, per a report from Fox Business.

The project plans to compete with the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Composite for new listings, expecting to facilitate initial public offerings, or IPOs, beginning in 2027.

Major financial institutions and asset managers — such as BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, and Charles Schwab — are backing the Texas Stock Exchange.

The effort recognizes that the “center of gravity for American capitalism” is increasingly located in Texas and the broader South — even calling the region the “Boom Belt.”

“As the only primary corporate and ETP listings venue built and headquartered in the Boom Belt, TXSE is both a product of the region’s rise and a catalyst to accelerate it,” the Texas Stock Exchange’s website said.

Dallas-Fort Worth is currently the leading market in the United States for corporate relocations, according to an April report from the Dallas Business Journal.

There were 11 interstate and international corporate headquarter relocations into Dallas last year, followed by Miami — another city in the South — with 8 relocations.

Since 2018, Dallas has seen more than 100 corporate relocations.

Charles Schwab moved its headquarters from San Francisco to Westlake, Texas, while Goldman Sachs opened a large regional campus in downtown Dallas.

AECOM relocated its global engineering headquarters from Los Angeles to Dallas, and CBRE Group, a commercial real estate company, likewise moved from Los Angeles.

Caterpillar and Flour Corp, two major construction and engineering firms, also recently moved to Dallas.

Austin, Texas, which is three hours from Dallas, recently saw high-profile moves from companies like Tesla and Oracle.

Fox Business noted that the region facilitates 40 percent of American exports, and enabled 57 percent of American job growth over the past five years.

The region has an annualized GDP of $8.9 trillion, surpassing all other global economies except for China and the United States.

The Texas Stock Exchange will have a permanent headquarters at the Bank of America Tower in Dallas.
