Watch: Tim Tebow Breaks Out with Offensive Explosion in Second Triple-A Game
It may have taken a game, but it looks like it’s Tebow Time for the Syracuse Mets.
The New York Mets’ Triple-A affiliate had its second game of the season Saturday against the Pawtucket Red Sox, and Tebow looks like he’s acclimating himself rather nicely to the best that minor league baseball has to offer.
Facing off against Pawtucket right-handed pitcher Chandler Shepherd, the former Heisman Trophy winner made an emphatic statement in his first at-bat.

Tebow ripped a single to bring in Travis Taijeron for the score in the bottom of the second inning.
It might not have had the same magic as Tebow’s first Double-A at-bat, but you have to factor in the increase of talent level when moving up to Triple-A.
But anyone can get lucky in a given at-bat. How would Tebow respond with his second plate appearance in the bottom of the third?
Nothing to see here, just an emphatic double to score Danny Espinosa for Tebow’s second RBI of the day.

Tebow did strike out swinging in the bottom of the fifth, but he still finished an impressive 2 for 3 on the day with a pair of RBIs.
Many have acknowledged that while Tebow’s hitting has been steadily improving, his defense is still a work in progress.
To that end, Tebow, in left field, finished the top of the fifth by catching a pair of flyouts from Tony Renda and Sandy Leon.
It would be naive to suggest that Tebow’s value to the Mets lies solely in his on-field production and his team-leading work ethic. The former NFL quarterback’s ability to sell merchandise and tickets is also a key factor.
Clearly, it’s working.

Tebow’s team eventually beat the Red Sox 6-3 for their first win as the Syracuse Mets.

While this is obviously just one game, Tebow’s marked improvement year over year has led to rampant speculation about him being called up to the majors this season.
“If Tim Tebow is the best offensive player in Triple-A at that point in time, he’s going to be in (manager Mickey Callaway’s) lineup,” Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said in December.
“I’ve always said about Tim, tell him he can’t do something and he’s going to prove you wrong,” the GM added.
For a Mets franchise that has been mired in irrelevancy for longer than it would care to admit, Tebow Time can’t possibly come soon enough for the team and its fans.
