Watch: Nets Manage To Lose in Most Heartbreaking Fashion Imaginable
A terrible turnover late in the game and some Grade A flopping led to the New Orleans Pelicans pulling off a shocking win Friday night over the Brooklyn Nets.
With under one minute remaining in Friday’s game, the Nets had a 115-110 lead and a 96.9 percent win probability, according to Inpredictable.com.
New Orleans then sank four straight free throws to make it a one-point deficit with 22 seconds remaining. Still, the Nets had the ball so the Pelicans presumably had to foul in order to stop the clock and get the ball back.
Presumably.
The Nets then showed why they’ve been the NBA’s laughingstock for the last handful of years as D’Angelo Russell committed a careless turnover by throwing the ball out of bounds.

With 7.5 seconds remaining and New Orleans down by one, Jrue Holiday then utilized a switch on a pick-and-roll to isolate center Jarrett Allen one-on-one.
Holiday calmly dribbled to his preferred spot on the floor and created enough space to get an open midrange jumper to give New Orleans a one-point lead with two seconds remaining.
That’s when things really got weird.
During the ensuing timeout, Solomon Hill of the Pelicans walked toward the Nets’ huddle where Ed Davis gave him a little shove, almost a shrug.
That shrug apparently was enough to send the 6-foot-7, 225-pound Hill to the floor — and the play happened right in front of an official.

The officials reviewed the play and assessed Davis with a technical foul. Holiday then hit the free throw to give New Orleans a two-point lead with two seconds remaining.
With the way things went for the Nets up to that point, you can guess what happened during those last two seconds.
Brooklyn didn’t even get a shot off to potentially tie or win the game as Anthony Davis deflected the inbounds pass, and the Pelicans prevailed 117-115.
The victory kept New Orleans undefeated, and at 4-0 they have the best record in the Western Conference.
The Nets dropped to 2-3 and will, somehow, try to bounce back when they host the two-time defending champion Golden State Warriors on Sunday.
