What baseball-loving kid hasn’t played out this fantasy scenario in a game of backyard Wiffle ball?
Well, this was the actual setting for Texas A&M’s Bryce Blaum as he stood in Sunday against West Virginia University closer Sam Kessler in the 2019 NCAA baseball tournament, which culminates with the College World Series.

Blaum, the Aggies second baseman, drove a ball over the left-field wall for a walk-off grand slam.
Texas A&M beat WVU 11-10 in the Morgantown Regional, where WVU was the top seed.
There’s a name for what Blaum did — it’s called a Golden Homer.

Did I mention that this was an elimination game?
It really doesn’t get much more dramatic than that.
The Mountaineers, who were No. 15 team in the country, had built a 9-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
But a grand slam by Texas A&M’s Logan Foster in the seventh, which capped off a six-run inning for the Aggies, cut the lead to 9-7, The Bryan-College Station Eagle reported.
WVU added a run in the eighth to set the stage for Blaum’s heroics.
“That was something you dream of when you’re a little kid in the backyard, getting that chance and the opportunity,” Blaum said afterward, according to ESPN.

“And what a way, what a narrative to end it — 3-2, runners are going, two outs, their best guy on the mound, and — I honestly I don’t know what happened after I hit it. Everything was a blur,” Blaum said.
Unfortunately for Texas A&M, the wild ride came to an end later on Sunday as the Aggies were eliminated by No. 3 seed Duke.
Duke beat the Aggies 4-1 to advance to the super regionals.
The Blue Devils will face Vanderbilt this weekend in a best-of-three series to determine who advances to the College World Series.
