Warriors coach Steve Kerr crosses line with Trump hate, makes idiotic comparison
It’s no secret that the NBA champion Golden State Warriors and President Donald Trump are not friends.
Warriors stars Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry have both been vocal critics of the Trump administration’s policies and actions. The two have been vocal enough that Trump ultimately rescinded the traditional champion’s visit to the White House after the Warriors won the NBA championship last season.
Few have been more critical of Trump than Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.
The Warriors coach has repeatedly questioned and called out Trump. He’s never shied away from commenting on Trump when a reporter inevitably asks him about it.
That being said, Kerr, Curry and Durant are very much within their rights as American citizens to speak out on Trump. This isn’t Moscow. Questioning and criticizing a presidential administration without fear of death is something that can happen just a few select countries, including America.
Where critics cross the line, however, is when they start attacking and impugning character with no tangible evidence. Policies, actions and decisions are all fair game to be put under the microscope. Things such as families and character being mean-spiritedly attacked is crossing the line.
Coach Kerr crossed that line while speaking with reporters when he accused Trump of being mentally retarded.
In a somewhat sad attempt to be culturally relevant, Kerr compared Trump to a character from the 2004 movie “Anchorman.”
Talking to reporters, Kerr gleefully attacked Trump over his recent discussion about gun control measures.
Trump actually came under fire from conservatives and Republicans when he openly pondered the possibility of taking guns away from the mentally ill and providing them with due process later. Conversely, this thrilled some liberals and Democrats.

Kerr likened that interaction to “Anchorman” character Brick Tamland. In the movie, Tamland was the comic relief idiot who tried to put mayonnaise in a toaster oven. The movie’s lore had established that Tamland was mentally retarded. Tamland was also involved in a scene where he was laughing and getting along with rival anchormen before a huge fight, the scene Kerr was alluding to.
“I was hardly surprised,” Kerr said of Trump’s gun control comments, even though Trump has been staunchly pro-gun rights.
“I think he’d forgotten which side he was on. It reminded me of ‘Anchorman,’ when Brick ends up on the wrong side of the fight, and they’re like, ‘No, no, Brick, you’re on this side.’ Sorry, is that wrong? I’m in big trouble. … It was worth it. I know I’m going to take all kinds of s—, but it was worth it.”
The great irony is that Kerr is ripping Trump as mentally retarded despite Trump seemingly calling for the exact types of gun measures that Kerr has been rallying for.
