Tom Brady's Cryptic Message Ignites Frenzy of Retirement Speculation
When it comes to reacting like the sky is falling and taking any given statement in the most dire way possible, nobody beats Bostonians, and especially Boston sports fans.
So when Patriots quarterback and NFL legend Tom Brady chose some rather interesting phrasing to describe his offseason workouts, you could practically hear Rob Schneider from “The Waterboy” yelling, “Oh no, we suck again!”
Quoting rapper Jay-Z, Brady said Tuesday of his appearance at Patriots minicamp, “Treat my first like my last, and my last like my first!”

Some Patriots fans took him literally, as if he were implying that the 2019 season would be his last, and lost their minds.

Now, Brady will turn 42 years old on Aug. 3, so it won’t be all that surprising when he finally hangs them up, of course.
There are plenty of guys born in 1977 who never even played in the NFL but whose bodies are so shot that they’ll order delivery from a pizza place across the street because it hurts the knees too much to walk there.
The idea of playing a sport as violent as professional football, even in an era where giving the quarterback a dirty look is a 15-yard personal foul penalty, is alien to most middle-aged guys.
One fan, however, noticed Brady looking as nimble and poised as a fresh-faced rookie and wondered if perhaps some odd form of reverse aging was involved.

You can root against the Patriots, hope they go 0-16 and hope Brady throws no touchdowns and 48 interceptions in 16 games, but rooting for a professional athlete to get injured is just classless.
Then again, where there are classless fans, there are defiant fans of greatness happy to repeat the Patriots mantra of “hate us ’cause they ain’t us.”

Brady has said in the past that he wants to play until he’s at least 45 years old.
So if he’s still quoting Jay-Z ahead of the 2022 season, maybe we can take him literally then.
