Robert Kraft Breaks Silence Amid Prostitution Scandal - 'I Am Truly Sorry'

Share

The ongoing scandal involving New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and his alleged purchase of sexual services at the Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter, Florida, finally has a statement from the man himself.

Kraft released a statement that ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter posted to Twitter on Saturday.

“In deference to the judicial process, I have remained silent these past several weeks,” Kraft said. “To correct some of the misinformation surrounding this matter, my attorney made his first public comments on Friday night. I would like to use this opportunity to say something that I have wanted to say for four weeks.

“I am truly sorry. I know I have hurt and disappointed my family, my close friends, my co-workers, our fans and many others who rightfully hold me to a higher standard.

“Throughout my life, I have always tried to do the right thing. The last thing I would ever want to do is disrespect another human being.

“I have extraordinary respect for women; my morals and my soul were shaped by the most wonderful woman, the love of my life, who I was blessed to have as my partner for 50 years.

“As I move forward, I hope to continue to use the platform with which I have been blessed to help others and to try to make a difference. I expect to be judged not by my words, but by my actions. And through these actions, I hope to regain your confidence and respect.”

Should the Patriots be penalized by the league for their owner's actions?

Kraft’s attorney, William Burck, filed a motion in court asking that police videos of Kraft on camera allegedly receiving sexual services for money be suppressed and not released to the public.

The West Palm Beach state attorney refused to grant that request, Burck told the New York Post.

Martin County Sheriff William Snyder pointed out that such requests are not typically granted to ordinary defendants, implying that Kraft’s wealth and celebrity status will not provide him legal armor in this case.

“There has to be a specific reason not to release a public record,” Snyder said in an appearance Thursday on CNBC. “And the fact that there is sexual activity is not an exemption.”

Kraft’s attorneys haven’t denied that he received sexual services at the spa but have maintained he did nothing illegal.

The owner’s citation of his deceased wife, Myra, raised the ire of some on Twitter.

Others commented condemning those who would be quick to judge.

But at the heart of the matter stood a comment on the natural skepticism that comes part and parcel with any scandal of this nature.

Kraft has been formally charged with two criminal counts and has refused a plea deal, so it seems that the Patriots’ offseason will be less about defending their sixth Super Bowl championship and more about the legal difficulties of their 77-year-old owner.
