PGA Tour Star Says Someone 'Should' Get Fired After Ad Blunder

Share

PGA Tour star Brooks Koepka is unhappy with an ad for the upcoming U.S. Open that was featured on Fox Sports.

Koepka has won four majors to this point in his career, including the past two Opens.

He hopes to win a third U.S. Open title this upcoming weekend.

In a news conference Tuesday, Koepka was asked whether he plays with a chip on his shoulder.

Indeed he does.

“Yeah, I mean, why wouldn’t you?” Koepka said. “You’ve always got to find something to give you a little bit of extra motivation. Sometimes it’s blatantly obvious. … There’s a commercial running now where I’m not even in it, and Fox put it up for a preview of the U.S. Open.

“So I don’t know. You guys tell me. … There’s a couple of things where it’s just mind-boggling how — it’s like, really? Like, how do you forget that?”

Koepka said he did not initially see the ads but many of his Twitter followers tagged him in response to the tweet so he would check it out.

Should anyone be fired because Koepka was left out of the ad?

“I guess they were amazed that I wasn’t in it,” he said. “I just clicked on the link and saw it and watched it. Just kind of shocked.

“They’ve had over a year to kind of put it out. So I don’t know. Somebody probably got fired over it — or should.”

However, Golf Digest reported four different television spots were used on Fox in the lead up to the Open.

Three of the four ads did include Koepka, and only one didn’t, the report said.

Golf magazine noted that one of those three ads was focused completely on him.

Koepka tied for 50th place at the Canadian Open this past weekend, shooting 2 under par.

Rory McIlroy (22 under) won the tournament.

Koepka’s tee time to start the U.S. Open is 4:47 p.m. ET Thursday.
