NFL Superstar Under Investigation over Alleged Child Abuse Incident - Report

Share

Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowler Tyreek Hill is part of an investigation involving alleged battery of a juvenile, the KCTV-TV reported Friday.

Police were called to Hill’s home in Overland Park, Kansas, on Thursday afternoon, but he is not listed on the police report.

Per the report, there was an alleged battery of a juvenile, and Hill’s fiancee, Crystal Espinal, is listed under “others involved.”

The Kansas City Star reported the incident involved the couple’s 3-year-old son and resulted in a broken arm.

This was the second time in two weeks that police had been called to Hill’s home, as there was a report of child abuse and neglect on March 5, according to KCTV.

Hill’s name was listed on that report, but police said the case was closed three days later when prosecution was declined.

Mike Deines, a spokesman for the Kansas Department of Children and Families, said that it is investigating the most recent incident.

“I can only confirm we received a report and an investigation is ongoing,” Deines told The Star.

The Chiefs released a statement Friday in which they said they will have no further comment until they gather more information from the NFL and the police.

“The club is aware of the investigation involving Tyreek Hill,” the team said, according to ESPN. “We’re in the process of gathering information and have been in contact with the league and local authorities.

“We’ll have no further comment at this time.”

Hill does have a criminal record that led to him being kicked out of Oklahoma State in 2014. Back then he was arrested for assaulting a pregnant Espinal, who was his girlfriend at the time.

The police report said he threw her around, punched her and choked her. After OSU coach Mike Gundy heard of the charges and viewed photos of the victim, he kicked Hill off the team.

Hill eventually pleaded guilty to domestic assault and battery by strangulation. He was sentenced to three years of probation, entered a batterer’s program and underwent anger management courses and a domestic abuse evaluation.

In August 2018, Hill completed his probation, and one month later he and Espinal were engaged.

Hill talked about how great things were going for him at that time and how supportive his family had been.

“It feels good,” Hill said, according to The Star. “Everything feels good. Everything is in order. I’m playing well, my family is great, my family is amazing. I have a great support system. Everything is going well for me.”

Hill is just the fifth wide receiver in NFL history to make three Pro Bowls and be named to two All-Pro first teams within his first three NFL seasons.

With three seasons under his belt, he is now eligible for a contract extension, and NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport said last week that the Chiefs had begun negotiations with Hill on a “record-setting deal.”
