Trump Curse? Vonn Fails to Even Make It to Podium After Insulting POTUS
Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, who made headlines last year when she vowed “to represent the people of the United States, not the president” at the Winter Olympics, got trounced during her first performance at the games last week.
During her debut at the women’s Super-G event over the weekend, it took her so long to traverse the course that she “wound up in a tie for sixth place, 0.38 seconds behind surprise champion Ester Ledecka of the Czech Republic and 0.27 away from third place,” as reported by The Associated Press.
That’s an abysmal performance for a woman the AP noted is “generally considered the greatest female ski racer in history.”
As a result, Vonn didn’t even made it to the winner’s podium. Moreover, the woman who earned first place, the Czech Republic’s Ester Ledecka, isn’t even a skier. She’s a snowboarder, according to NPR.
That’s right, folks, Vonn got defeated by a snowboarder. Sad.
However, some felt it was only fitting given her previous unnecessary swipe at President Donald Trump.
“Well, I hope to represent the people of the United States, not the president. … I want to represent our country well. I don’t think that there are a lot of people currently in our government that do that,” she told CNN in December.
Was that unpatriotic and disrespectful remark even necessary? Check out social media’s reaction below:
Just to be clear, Vonn isn’t out of the games yet. According to NBC, she’s slated “to ski the Olympic downhill on Wednesday.”
“It’s all or nothing,” she reportedly said about the upcoming run. “There’s nothing to be nervous about or think about pressure or expectations. Either I win or I lose.”
And just as she reportedly said before her abysmal Super-G run, Vonn pledged that she plans to “absolutely give it everything I have.”
That’s great and all, but it didn’t seem to work out so well for her last time, did it?
If you ask me, she could learn a lot from Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim, 17, whose patriotism has shined bright like the sun at this year’s Olympic games.
Not only has she never once unnecessarily attacked our president, but she’s made it clear with her words and actions that she loves America.
And wouldn’t you know it, during her first performance this week, she earned a gold … unlike anti-Trump zealot Lindsey Vonn.
