Triple Amputee Vet Launches Own Effort To Fund Border Wall. Raises $6.7 Million in 4 Days
As has become typical in Washington, a major spending bill battle is coming down to the last moment ahead of a potential government shutdown, with the sticking point this time being a mere $5 billion for a border wall — chump change, in relation to the massive amount spent by the government on everything else.
President Donald Trump had initially threatened to shutdown the government if he didn’t get the $5 billion in funding he requested, but Democrats are refusing to budge on the matter — even though they’ve approved greater amounts for border security in the recent past — and the largely spineless Republicans aren’t really fighting the matter on Trump’s behalf.
On Thursday, Trump reiterated his vow to hold fast for wall funding, according to Fox News. But the clock is ticking toward Friday’s deadline with Democrats still balking at funding the wall, not matter how crucial the need is.
In light of the funding fight, and in consideration of how important a border wall and border security is to the president’s political base, one enterprising Trump supporter has taken it upon himself to get around the intransigent weasels on Capitol Hill and come up with funding for a border wall on his own — with the help of thousands of other like-minded Trump supporters to boot — via a GoFundMe campaign.
That man is Brian Kolfage, a former United States Air Force senior airman who lost three limbs and earned a Purple Heart fighting for our nation in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He named the fundraising campaign “We The People Will Fund The Wall.”
“Like a majority of those American citizens who voted to elect President Donald J Trump, we voted for him to Make America Great Again. President Trump’s main campaign promise was to BUILD THE WALL. And as he’s followed through on just about every promise so far, this wall project needs to be completed still,” Kolfage wrote.
“As a veteran who has given so much, 3 limbs, I feel deeply invested to this nation to ensure future generations have everything we have today. Too many Americans have been murdered by illegal aliens and too many illegals are taking advantage of the United States taxpayers with no means of ever contributing to our society,” he continued.
“I have grandparents who immigrated to America legally, they did it the correct way and it’s time we uphold our laws, and get this wall BUILT! It’s up to Americans to help out and pitch in to get this project rolling.”
Kolfage noted that the government has accepted funding from private sources in the past, most recently in 2012 when an unnamed billionaire donated $7.5 million to help cover the costs of renovating the Washington Monument. He further noted that if all 63 million Trump voters donated just $80 per person, it would raise more than the $5 billion in funds Trump had requested from Congress.
“Democrats are going to stall this project by every means possible and play political games to ensure President Trump doesn’t get his victory,” wrote Kolfage. “They’d rather see President Trump fail, than see America succeed.”
“However, if we can fund a large portion of this wall, it will jumpstart things and will be less money Trump has to secure from our politicians,” he continued.
“This won’t be easy, but it’s our duty as citizens. This needs to be shared every single day by each of you on social media. We can do it, and we can help President Trump make America safe again!” added Kolfage.
The fundraising campaign was launched on Sunday. By Thursday afternoon, it had astoundingly already reached nearly $6.2 million from nearly 102,000 donors, the bulk of whom were donating anywhere from $10 to $100 to the cause.
Kolfage set a goal of $1 billion for the fundraiser, and given the incredible speed with which the campaign had reached $6 million, such a seemingly lofty goal is not entirely out of the question.
The retired triple amputee veteran added in the requisite assurances that all funds donated would go solely toward the border wall, and noted that he was working closely with lawyers to ensure that all legal aspects would be covered and the government would be bound to spend the funds on the stated purpose, and nothing else.
He further noted that, in addition to the fundraiser he created, Republican Mississippi Rep. Steven Palazzo had introduced legislation which would direct the U.S. Treasury Department to issue savings bonds that would also raise funds for a border wall, a practice the U.S. has used many times in the past when additional funding for national emergencies or specific projects was necessary.
Kolfage, who lost his right arm and the bottom of both legs in Iraq, knows what sacrifice means.

To say it is a disappointment that a Republican president and Republican-controlled Congress were incapable of obtaining the necessary funding to fulfill a primary campaign promise over the past two years would be nothing less than a massive understatement, and while that failure certainly falls more on the backs of spineless Republicans on the Hill than the outnumbered and besieged president beset on all sides by subversive enemies, he isn’t entirely off the hook either.
Regardless, Kolfage and more than 100,000 like-minded Americans who’ve long demanded a border wall to help secure our nation are taking action on their own, sidestepping the do-nothing Congress in a bid to provide Trump with at least some of the border wall funding the country so desperately needs.
The effort to fund the oft-promised border wall by the people who demand it can only be described as awe-inspiring, and we cheer on this effort for all that it is worth with the sincere hope that it ultimately proves successful.
