Soros Targeted After White House Rolls Out Revamped Petitions Page
The White House’s petitions page is finally back online after a major update, and one of the biggest targets after the revamp could be liberal financier George Soros.
A petition called “Declare George Soros a terrorist and seize all of his related organizations’ assets under RICO and NDAA law” on whitehouse.gov has already gathered over 150,000 signatures.
That’s well more than the 100,000 signatures needed to qualify for a response from the president.
The petition states that “George Soros has willfully and on an ongoing basis attempted to destabilize and otherwise commit acts of sedition against the United States and its citizens, has created and funded dozens (and probably hundreds) of discrete organizations whose sole purpose is to apply Alinsky model terrorist tactics to facilitate the collapse of the systems and Constitutional government of the United State (sic).”
It also notes that Soros “has developed unhealthy and undue influence over the entire Democrat Party and a large portion of the US Federal government.”
Thus, the petition states, “the DOJ should immediately declare George Soros and all of his organizations and staff members to be domestic terrorists, and have all of his personal an (sic) organizational wealth and assets seized under Civil Asset Forfeiture law.”
As the Washington Examiner reported last September, however, the Trump White House has yet to respond to any petition that’s hit 100,000 signatures. That could change after the revamped page went up on Thursday.
While several of the most popular petitions are critical of the president — the most popular, according to The Washington Post, includes one that calls upon the president to release his tax returns — several are conservative in nature.
Another prominent petition on the page that’s reached 100,000 signatures is an appeal to have antifa listed as a terrorist group.
The Soros petition isn’t necessarily new — it was started on Aug. 20 of last year and had 140,000 of its signatures by early September.
However, Soros — who funds liberal organizations as multifarious as NARAL, MoveOn.org, Media Matters for America and the American Civil Liberties Union — is always a big draw when it comes to conservative attention.
That said, it would be a very, very big reach to have Soros labeled a terrorist, and likely not a reach that would be good for the country.
It will be interesting to see what’s in the Trump White House’s response, however, assuming it makes one.
After all, Soros has said that Trump “is going to fail as president” and has done everything in his power to reinforce that impression.
It could be yet another opportunity for the president to rub Soros’ failure in his face.
