Rob Lowe Deletes Elizabeth Warren Joke After Perpetually Offended Hollywood Types Freak Out

Share

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren spoke about a host of issues when she announced her 2020 presidential run, but nothing she said could distract from the Native American heritage scandal that has dogged her for years

Many people, including conservative-leaning actor Rob Lowe, used the opportunity to remind Warren that she has yet to escape the tangles of her false claims.

Lowe tweeted about a hypothetical President Warren on Saturday, PJ Media document. Shortly after, he deleted the tweet and tweeted an explanation after a number of leftists and Hollywood colleagues expressed indignation.

“Elizabeth Warren would bring a whole new meaning to Commander in ‘Chief,'” Lowe had tweeted Saturday.

Clearly, it was a harmless play on words, using a title of American presidents and a title used by Native American tribal leaders.

Actor Bradley Whitford, who co-starred alongside Lowe in the hit TV series “West Wing,” criticized Lowe for “amplifying” the “racist” messages coming out of the White House, while other fading Hollywood stars like Alyssa Milano and Valerie Bertinelli expressed their great displeasure with Lowe over the joke.

“I deleted my Elizabeth Warren tweet. It was a joke and some peeps got upset, and that’s never my intention. On the GOOD side: I just got to use the Oxford comma,” Lowe tweeted Sunday.

If you were Rob Lowe, would you have deleted this tweet?

Much of the criticism of Lowe’s tweet centered on it being racist toward both Warren and Native Americans in general. In covering the deleted tweet, however, PJ Media stumbled upon an odd dichotomy from the left regarding Warren’s claim of Native heritage.

When it was widely believed on the left that Warren really was of Native American descendant, it was deemed racist to make fun of her for it. But now that it has been shown that she is actually less related to Native American bloodlines than the average person in America, it is deemed racist to make fun of her false claims.

Lowe was not the only one to take a shot at Warren’s announcement by invoking her heritage, as President Donald Trump offered a snarky take also deemed racist by many on the left.

“Today Elizabeth Warren, sometimes referred to by me as Pocahontas, joined the race for President,” the president tweeted. “Will she run as our first Native American presidential candidate, or has she decided that after 32 years, this is not playing so well anymore? See you on the campaign TRAIL, Liz!”

The “campaign TRAIL” reference drew fire as a reference to a low point in American history, the forced march in the 1830s of conquered Native Americans from their tribal homelands in the southeast along the Trail of Tears to reservations in the largely unsettled Midwest.

However, given Trump’s tendency to highlight random words within a tweet it is unclear if Trump meant the Trail of Tears or just the innocuous and mundane campaign trail.

Instead, Trump was likely taking a well-deserved shot at Warren for falsely claiming a heritage that was not hers to claim.
