Ret. Army Colonel Makes No Bones, Says They're Coming for Our Guns - Free Speech is Next
We here at Conservative Tribune have written at length about the fact that the progressive left is dead set on doing away with our Second Amendment-protected right to keep and bear arms. Given the fact that the rest of our fundamental rights as citizens are guaranteed by the Second, they would soon disappear as well if the left is successful.
Ret. Army Col. Kurt Schlichter recently touched on that notion in a fiery Op-Ed for Townhall titled, “They Take the Second Amendment First and the First Amendment Second.” The piece highlighted how the left seeks to subjugate “Normal” Americans and transform them from free citizens to suppressed subjects.
He argued that progressives won’t be content to stop at simply doing away with the Second Amendment, but will immediately attack the First Amendment as well, since, “They don’t want you to speak freely. They don’t want you to have access to a free press. They don’t want you to practice your religion as you see fit.”
If Americans are no longer able to be armed for our own defense or permitted to freely speak our minds, we are no longer citizens but serfs who must bow to the whims of our liberal betters.
Of course, there are those who scoff at such warnings and protest that such an eventuality could never happen in a free country, but Schlichter merely points to our once-free cousins across the Atlantic in the United Kingdom. Despite the fact that they submitted to the sort of gun control measures liberals assure us will create a violence-free Utopia, the British are now witnessing a surge in knife crime and have seen London’s murder rate top that of New York City.
Oh, and British subjects are also being jailed for saying things that have been deemed “offensive” by the progressives who rule what was once considered a bastion of free peoples.

As proof that such an Orwellian eventuality could indeed occur here in America if we were stripped of our God-given natural right to keep and bear arms, Schlichter pointed to the frighteningly absurd attacks against the First Amendment that have been seen on college and university campuses nationwide.
Whether it be crowds of angry social justice warriors shouting down and silencing invited speakers they disagree with, or students who have run afoul of progressive orthodoxy being summarily drummed out of school by cowed administrators running campus kangaroo courts, the freedom of speech and thought is very much imperiled on the typically gun-free campuses of America.
The attack against free speech and thought is not confined solely to the leftist indoctrination camps known as schools. It can also be seen in the relentless attacks now being mounted against pro-Trump actress Roseanne Barr and Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who had the temerity to mock one of the liberal gun control-promoting student “survivors” from the Parkland, Florida school shooting.
Even liberal journalists — who are quick to mount a defense of their First Amendment-protected rights against criticisms from President Donald Trump — are nevertheless cheering on the leftist assaults against the free speech of folks like Barr and Ingraham.
“There was a time when journalists at least pretended to believe in a free press, but one of the great things about the Age of Donald Trump is how the masks have come off,” Schlichter wrote. “Liberal journalists hate the idea of free speech, because you Normals might dare presume to use it.”
It all circles back to guns and our Second Amendment-protected right to keep and bear them, which is the primary target for leftists who wish to strip us of the dignity of being able to defend ourselves and our natural rights.

Schlichter warned, “They want to strip you of that dignity both because doing so will humiliate you and show you who is really the boss, and because they enjoy rubbing your uppity rube noses in your own powerlessness.”
“Once your Second Amendment rights are gone, do you think the liberals will suddenly decide to be more respectful of your First Amendment rights? Or do you think they will accelerate their campaign to strip you of the civil rights that remain the last obstacle to their total control?” he concluded.
Sadly, Schlichter is absolutely right in his assessment of leftist intentions with regard to our constitutional rights. This should compel all freedom and liberty-loving Americans to not only buy more guns and ammo, but also to speak loudly about it and be prepared to defend those rights from those who would seek to usurp them.
