Rep. Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio, is expected to formally announce his intent to lead the resistance against Democrats’ far-left policies by becoming House minority leader.
“REP. JIM JORDAN will announce this morning that he’s running for House minority leader,” Jake Sherman of Punchbowl News posted on X.
“The Ohio Republican is the first person in the minority leader race. JORDAN will make the case that the leadership needs new blood, investigations are his specialty,” he posted.

A Jordan campaign to be the top Republican had already been expected if Tuesday went against the GOP, according to Fox News.
Jordan, who currently chairs the House Judiciary Committee and launched an ill-fated bid to become House speaker in 2023, traveled extensively in the weeks before the midterm elections to support Republican candidates.
Fox News noted that House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, a Louisiana Republican, is also expected to seek the post.
Politico offered a summary of what the two bring to any contest for a leadership role.
“Scalise has spent nearly eight years as the No. 2 leader, raising scads of money and building back-slapping relationships with a broad cross-section of members. He’s traveled this cycle with 203 candidates and incumbents and sent nearly $24 million to fellow Republicans,” the outlet reported.
“Jordan, meanwhile, has made himself into a conservative icon through his battles with top GOP leaders and his combative performances at Oversight and Judiciary committee hearings, only to take a more conciliatory turn in recent years,” Politico said.
“It’s Jordan’s race to lose,” an unnamed House Republican said. “I think it’s his time.”
“People want fresh blood,” another Republican added.

Retiring Rep. Mark Amodei, a Republican from Nevada, said before the elections that defeat would mean the end of House Speaker Mike Johnson’s leadership.
“When… everything’s good, the quarterback’s the hero,” Amodei said. “When you lose, I’m sure there’ll be plenty of blame to go around — that’s what transpires.”
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida, left little doubt that she would back Jordan, who supported her starting with her election in 2022.
Jordan “definitely has a really good shot at it,” she said.
“I am fair game for anyone who thinks that they have a shot at that position,” she said. “I want to hear what the platform is. But I will tell you that Jim Jordan helped get me elected, and I have an immense amount of respect for him because I remember who was there for me when no one else was.”
Politico noted that under Republican rules, anyone running for the post has to declare by Friday, with a vote scheduled for next week.
