Rams Superstar Todd Gurley Surprises with Powerful 'God' Statement at Super Bowl

Share

It’s no secret that the NFL has a genuine problem with some bad characters.

It doesn’t take much effort to find stories about players and ex-players who’ve been busted for allegedly assaulting a police officer, driving under the influence or kidnapping and raping women.

The messages that those players are sending, that you can skirt the law if you’re rich or famous enough, is a terrible one.

It’s doubly concerning considering the swathes of younger people and impressionable minds who watch the NFL.

That makes it all the more important to recognize players when they try to send good, powerful messages.

Thus, it’s time to give Los Angeles Rams superstar Todd Gurley his proper credit for his message in the week leading up to Super Bowl LIII on Sunday.

Gurley told Sports Spectrum on Thursday about how much God means to him and how important He is to everything Gurley does.

“God means everything. Without Him, none of this is possible,” the three-time Pro Bowler said. “Faith, family, football — I’m trying to keep that philosophy.”

It’s a powerful statement that was echoed during the Super Bowl week by another former Georgia running back, the New England Patriots’ Sony Michel, and it’s been awesome to hear.

“He’s done so much,” Gurley said. “He’s blessed me, that’s why I am where I am, because He’s blessed me so much my whole life.”

Again, and this can’t be stressed enough, this is where Gurley’s mind is just days before the biggest game of his career. That should speak volumes.

“What more can I ask for? He’s given me everything I wanted plus more,” he said. “I’m super grateful for every opportunity I get, and it’s just a blessing to be here.”

This is hardly the first time that Gurley has mentioned his faith in public.

When the Rams first qualified for the Super Bowl Gurley spoke about his tumultuous journey.

“It’s a blessing from God, and it’s like no better feeling than to be able to be at the bottom and be at the top,” he said.

Gurley, who had a stellar year, finished the season with 21 combined rushing and receiving touchdowns. He ran for 1,251 yards and caught 59 passes for 580 yards.

He will look to win his first Super Bowl on Sunday when the Rams face off against the defending AFC champion New England Patriots.
