Pregnant Mom Breaks Down When She Hears Late Dad's Voice for Emotional Gender Reveal

Share

Unique gender reveals are becoming the norm as couples look for creative ways to announce the sex of their unborn baby. For one pregnant mother, learning the sex of her child was more than a surprise, it was an emotional journey.

When Jennifer Jones-Prothro found out she was expecting, she decided this time around she would be surprised by the sex of her baby, CNN reported. Her husband, James Prothro, had other plans.

The Vacaville, California, couple had found out if they were having a girl or a boy during pregnancy with all their other children, despite resistance from Jones-Prothro’s father.

“My dad always wanted to be surprised by it,” Jones-Prothro told CNN. “There are not many surprises left in the world these days.”

Jones-Prothro lost her dad to cancer last year and decided that with the birth of her new little one, she would be surprised this time as a way to honor her late father.

Pressured by friends and family who desperately wanted to throw her a themed baby shower, Jones-Prothro decided that she needed to find out the sex of her baby before giving birth.

Jones-Prothro, who was six months along at the time, tasked her husband to come up with a creative way to reveal the sex of the newborn. She wanted it to be something she’d never seen before.

He was definitely up to the challenge. He was creative and wanted to surprise his wife in the kindest of ways. Little did Jennifer know, she would soon be moved to tears by her husband’s gesture.

“It was more of a playful challenge,” he told CNN.

Have you found out the gender of your children before they're born?

Luckily, Jennifer’s husband is a creative man and has his own home recording studio. He remembered all those voice messages from his father-in-law that his wife had kept when she knew he was ill.

Prothro had the amazing idea to edit the recordings to have his father-in-law surprise Jennifer with the sex of their baby.

“He was her everything,” Prothro told CNN, so there was no better way to tell her.

Prothro was diligent about his task and worked late into the night to deliver the big reveal the next day.

“I was up late finishing it and I couldn’t wait any longer,” he told CNN.

When it came time to reveal the surprise, Protho told his wife he wanted to create a video to share with their family to distract her from the surprise he was about to give. Jennifer was onboard and held a speaker ready to begin her video recording.

Prothro told his wife, “This is the most special, creative way I could think of to tell you the sex of our child, but I couldn’t do it without a little help.”

A voice that Jennifer certainly recognized then came over the speaker. “Hello, Jenny, this is your father. I want to let you know that it is a girl.”

Jennifer was beyond emotional at hearing her dad’s voice once again. She smiled and then broke down into tears, covering her face.

“The last person I expected to hear was my dad,” she told CNN. “I wouldn’t have wanted to learn it any other way.”

Even more, people would soon learn of this heartwarming surprise, as the couple’s 17-year-old daughter uploaded the video to Twitter for friends and family to see.

More than 5.5 million have watched the video on social media.

The couple has yet to come up with a name for their expectant daughter but plans to keep this a secret so they will still have one surprise to look forward to.

Congratulations to this happy couple! We wish you well with your new bundle of joy!
