PGA golfer's wife arrested after she allegedly assaulted him over bad round

Share

There’s an old quote from Hall of Fame golfer Lee Trevino that sums up the scrutiny of his game:

“Pressure is playing for $10 when you don’t have a dime in your pocket.”

A former U.S. Open champion has another example.

Lucas Glover, who shocked the golf world in 2009 when he held off the likes of Phil Mickelson to win at Bethpage, hasn’t had many moments like that since.

After a disappointing round at the Players Championship over the weekend, Glover and his mother were allegedly attacked.

By his wife.

Krista Glover, 36, was arrested Saturday night and charged with domestic battery and resisting arrest.

Lucas Glover finished his third round at the tournament shooting a 6-over-par 78 — and his wife wasn’t happy about it.

In a 911 call, a clearly distraught Glover told authorities his wife had “gone crazy.”

A report from the sheriff’s office in St. Johns County, Florida, indicates that during dinner, Krista Glover verbally attacked her husband, calling him a “loser” and a “p—-.”

Lucas told authorities that his wife does this frequently when he doesn’t play well in major events (the Players Championship is regarded as the “fifth major”).

This time, however, things got physical, the report said.

Deputies reportedly noticed cuts and bruises on Lucas, while his mother said she had been hit in the chest by her daughter-in-law.

The alleged attack occurred in front of their two young children, who Krista Glover threatened to take with her when she leaves her husband, according to the report.

Lucas told deputies that he couldn’t take his wife’s constant berating, but he also offered to change his story to keep her out of jail.

According to reports, he also said his wife had been drinking all day.

The drama reportedly continued after she was placed in handcuffs. The deputies wrote in their report that Krista Glover resisted them and refused to get into the squad car. Once inside, she kicked the door and damaged it, they said.

“Wait till the [PGA] Tour hears about this,” she yelled at the deputies, according to the report. “You will lose your job. This is why cops get shot in the face. Wait till I talk with the judge, you will be f—ng fired over this.”

Lucas Glover took to social media Tuesday to say his wife and mother had been “involved in an argument to which the police were called. Everyone is fine. Regrettably, although Krista was charged, we are comfortable that the judicial system is able to address what actually happened and Krista will be cleared in this private matter.”

He thanked people for “respecting our privacy as we work through this uncomfortable situation.”

If convicted, Krista Glover could face up to a year in prison.
