Oh Deer! Adorable Fawn Saved by Rescuers After Getting Stuck Between Two Trees

Share

Have you ever had a great idea, just to realize too late that perhaps that idea wasn’t as foolproof as you first thought? Well, you’re certainly not alone!

For some reason, it seems that deer are prone to getting themselves into these kinds of sticky situations. Last year, a fawn was found trapped in a swamp of deep sewage. Thanks to the selflessness of one teenager who wasn’t afraid of getting dirty, the baby was rescued from the foul-smelling sludge.

Fans of the classic Disney film “Bambi” might find another fawn’s story familiar: The baby was rescued from the raging fires in California last summer and rewarded his rescuer with a grateful kiss.

Just the other day, a slightly more amusing deer rescue unfolded.

A little deer was caught in quite the uncomfortable situation at Philpott Lake in Virginia. When someone happened to stumble upon the scene, they found the fawn trapped helplessly between two tree trunks.

It seemed as though the baby had severely misjudged his jump — oh deer!

“This little fawn probably aimed to jump between two trees and got stuck while its mother stood helplessly watching,” the Philpott Lake Facebook page reported.

It was quite the interesting predicament. The trapped fawn was making noises of distress when Tony Moats, a Philpott Lake volunteer, stumbled upon the bizarre scene. He immediately contacted the visitor’s center and a rescue mission was arranged.

“Assistant Operations Manager, Brian Stewart, donned his waders and crossed the river. Brian was able to free the deer (see the 2nd photo) to return to the mother and tell her all about the nice Ranger who saved his life,” the Facebook post read.

While many fawn “rescues” are unnecessary and even harmful, since people mistakenly think babies have been abandoned when in reality their mommas are somewhere nearby, this was one case where mom couldn’t do anything to help her little one.

The situation was amusing since it was an odd predicament and the baby seemed unharmed, but if it hadn’t been spotted it could have paid dearly for its lack of judgment.

That same day, a fawn in Pelham, New Hampshire found viral fame as well. Sadly, this baby deer’s story was much more somber.

The Salem, New Hampshire Police Department reported on Facebook that a fawn was discovered “crying” beside her deceased mother. The mother had evidently been hit by a car.

Thankfully, a nearby resident checked up on the crying noise and phoned the Pelham Police Department. Soon, the little deer was on her way to a wildlife rehabilitator.

“Animals never fail to amaze us each and every single day!” the Salem New Hampshire Police Department wrote. “Thank you to all our wonderful wildlife rehabilitators in our state for all you do.”

Thanks to the compassion of rescuers and good Samaritans who care for the well-being of wildlife, these baby deer have overcome their situations. They are all likely on their way to frolicking in the woods once more!
