One of Notre Dame’s best defensive players, Te’von Coney, was sentenced to one year of probation related to his arrest for possession of marijuana.

On Tuesday, Coney pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana stemming from a 2016 arrest.

The judge approved the plea agreement and sentenced him to one year of probation, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The linebacker tweeted “Blessed” on Tuesday.

Coney, along with teammates wide receiver Kevin Stepherson, safety Max Redfield and cornerback Ashton White, were arrested by Indiana state police officer in August 2016 in Fulton County.

Coney, a senior, will be able to play out his final year of eligibility this year, reported the Tribune.

“If he takes care of it in the manner I expect him to, he should be full go, ready to play when we get to (August training) camp,” Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly told the Tribune.

Do you think Notre Dame should suspend Coney?

Coney is a key piece to the Notre Dame defense.

Last year he led the Irish with 116 tackles. He also had three sacks and 11 tackles for loss, which was also tops on the team.

Notre Dame finished 10-3 in 2017, including a win over LSU in the Citrus Bowl.

The Irish had a final ranking of 11 in the Associated Press poll.

In his three years at Notre Dame, Coney has 190 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and three sacks.
