New Documents Just Threw Ilhan Omar's Controversial Marriage Back in the Spotlight

Share

Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar is a lightning rod for controversy because of both her politics and her personal life.

According to the Washington Examiner, a recent investigation by a state agency uncovered new documents that raise even more questions about whether Omar skirted immigration laws by marrying a man that some claim is her own brother.

Omar says those are all “baseless rumors” — but that’s pretty much all she has said and has remained nearly silent for three years since the first questions arose about her marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, which lasted from 2009 to 2011.

In 2002, Omar married Ahmed Hirsi in a “faith ceremony,” which is not an officially recognized marriage. Six years later, they ended the relationship.

In 2009, Omar signed all the proper documents and legally married Elmi. According to Omar, she and Elmi religiously divorced two years later, before obtaining an official divorce in 2017.

Omar and Hirsi reconciled in 2011 and were legally married in 2018.

A new paper trail shows that Omar’s side of the story may not be entirely accurate, as she and Hirsi maintained a marital relationship between 2009 and 2011, when she was legally married to Elmi.

The documents — all of which are public — show that Hirsi and Omar lived together in Minneapolis the same year that Elmi and Omar married.

In addition, the Examiner noted that “Hirsi listed his address at a single Cedar Riverside address consistently in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. Four minor cases against Omar show that in 2007, 2009, and 2012, she listed her address at the same Cedar Riverside address.”

Do you think Rep. Omar is lying about her past?

“Specifically, local courts listed this address for both Omar and Hirsi in separate traffic violations in mid-2009, the year Omar and Elmi married,” the Examiner concluded.

Why do the discrepancies exist? Some — deemed conspiracy theorists by the establishment media — claim it was for immigration fraud, as Omar is originally from Somalia. Those individuals also believe that Elmi is Omar’s brother.

The new documents also bring to light other inconsistencies about Omar’s marriages.

According to the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune, a state probe of campaign finance violations last month show that Omar claimed to be married to Hirsi on her 2014 and 2015 taxes, despite being legally married to Elmi.

While she eventually corrected the peculiar error, she never publicly addressed why the mistake occurred.

The entire ordeal proves the American media is a complete and utter disgrace. Journalists and news publications should be holding Omar’s feet to the fire and demanding answers from the Minnesota lawmaker about her increasingly controversial past.

Or perhaps we’ll get lucky and as she nears her 2020 re-election bid, opposition research will uncover the truth once and for all.
