This May Be the Most Insane Bike Ride Ever Attempted

Share

What kind of day are you having? Sometimes, it feels like the mountains in front of us are impossible to climb — and that the cliffs and valleys are way too scary to even consider.

If you’re human, you’ve probably experienced this discouraging mindset at least once in life. Next time you do, check out this incredible video from Danny MacAskill.

MacAskill is a Scottish trials cyclist originally from Dunvegan, a small town on Scotland’s Isle of Skye. And as you might notice from any of his viral videos, he doesn’t back down from even the most extreme challenge.

His amazing adventures include one especially jaw-dropping display of skill, as he mountain bikes across Scotland’s fearsomely steep and craggy Cuillin Ridgeline.

His journey was captured in a 2014 film by MacAskill’s own Cut Media entitled simply, “The Ridge.”

To date, this video has amassed well over 55 million views on YouTube alone. Watching MacAskill in action, maybe you’ll agree that “epic” is the only word to describe his abilities — and his mettle.

Though MacAskill’s Facebook page indicates that he currently resides in Edinburgh, his Dunvegan roots make him no stranger to Cuillin Ridgeline’s awe-inspiring reputation.

The scenery documented in his video did not disappoint, and neither did his heart-stopping cycling prowess.

This highly respected young daredevil took his bike to some pretty unlikely places. The sweeping footage culminates with a ride down a rocky ridge that you literally have to see to believe.

Certainly, MacAskill is not the first person to recognize that Scotland represents a mountain biker’s paradise.

The breathtaking natural landscape is filled with tracks and trails that wind through forests, hills, and glens.

So if you’re feeling uplifted by “The Ridge,” explore some of MacAskill’s other videos. In 2009, at only 23 years of age, he released a street trials video on YouTube that literally earned several hundred thousand views overnight.

That original video, filmed by his flatmate Dave Sowerby, put MacAskill on the worldwide radar. Since then, he’s released other videos including “The Ridge” — and he’s also appeared in a Volkswagen television commercial, and been featured in the New York Times.

Looking for even more inspiration? Then don’t forget that MacAskill started out as a hard-working mechanic who simply refused to stop honing his talents, and dreaming big.

It all goes to show that some people may try to define your current ambitions as too lofty or unrealistic.

But if you take a cue from Danny MacAskill and his remarkable journeys, you’ll realize that practically anything is possible.
