Libs Are Lying: Green New Deal Won't Save Planet. Would Require 12x the Mining We Do Today
Liberals like to pretend that their “green energy” plans will save the planet, but the reality is that a move to green energy would require a drastic increase in global metal production.
“Climate change” alarmists like Democratic Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez consistently make calls for a “Green New Deal” that includes a heavy emphasis on and wind and solar power, and warn that “people are going to die” if it isn’t implemented.
They seem like they’re willing to do whatever it takes to “save the planet,” especially if it means using taxpayer money to do it.
However, a new study released Thursday by Leiden University in the Netherlands and environmental consulting firms Metabolic and Copper8 suggests that a switch to green energy in accordance with the Paris climate agreement would require an extreme increase in mining.
The study was presented at the United Nations’ COP24 gathering in Katowice, Poland, which focused on ways of implementing the 2015 Paris agreement, according to the Washington Examiner. (President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the agreement in 2017, though that decision won’t take effect until 2020.)
The study explained that wind and solar energy production requires a significant amount of critical metals.
“Calculations for the Netherlands show that production of wind turbines and photovoltaic (PV) solar panels already requires a significant share of the annual global production of some critical metals,” the study said.
The study determined that the global production of some metals would need to grow hugely.
“Looking at the global scale, scenarios in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement require the global production of some metals to grow at least twelvefold towards 2050, compared to today’s output,” the study reported.
However, the number could be even greater because their calculations did not include the demand for those metals used in electric vehicles and consumer electronics.
Of course, this is bad news for liberals, who are typically opposed to mining projects.
Mining could lead to erosion, the loss of biodiversity, and soil contamination, but it’s required for the left’s “green energy” agenda.
To make matters worse, the increased demand for critical metals would primarily benefit China.
“Currently, China is the dominant player in critical metal production – and its dominance is growing,” the study said.
It’s worth mentioning that China has a remarkably poor record when it comes to carbon emissions and fueling their industry won’t help.
This new study is just one item on the long list of reasons to be skeptical about the left’s energy plans.
Wind and solar energy could also lead to the extinction of more animals. Solar farms and wind turbines are already responsible for the deaths of thousands of animals, which seems to contradict the left’s claims about saving the planet.
The left’s green energy plans won’t save the environment. Until the market develops ways to make solar and wind energy cheaper, the negative consequences of green energy clearly outweigh the positives.
It’s obvious that leftists either don’t understand or don’t care about the consequences of their policies. They are only concerned with appearing like they are the saviors of the planet.
