Le'Veon Bell Reportedly Robbed of over $500,000 Worth of Jewelry
Arguably the most well-known free agent to change teams this offseason, running back Le’Veon Bell’s career with the Jets hasn’t started out as planned.
First, Bell had to answer questions about his relationship with new head coach Adam Gase following reports that Gase wasn’t thrilled the Jets’ prior regime had signed Bell, as ESPN noted.
Bell sidestepped that controversy like he sidesteps potential tacklers, but his latest issue won’t be so easy to avoid.
The three-time Pro Bowler is down over $500,000 worth of jewelry that was allegedly stolen from him by two of his girlfriends in South Florida, Bell told police, according to CNN.
Bell claimed he went to the gym on May 25 and left the two women at his Florida home.
When he returned, his residence had been ransacked, a jewelry case was open and empty, and the women had disappeared.
“The missing items are two gold Cuban link chains with diamonds, a gold chain with a black panther pendant which contained black and white diamonds, a rose gold Rolex presidential watch and a two tone rose gold and white gold Cuban link bracelet,” CNN noted.
All told, the value of the missing items totaled roughly $520,000, The Associated Press reported.
NJ Advance Media, which obtained the report Bell made to police in Hollywood, Florida, said the running back also claimed the women stole $22,600 in cash.
News of the alleged theft comes just two days after Bell made his debut in a Jets uniform, as he practiced with the team for the first time on Tuesday.
Former Jets linebacker Bart Scott suggested Bell made a rookie mistake by allowing the two women to take advantage of him.
“You’ve got to put it out there — ‘hey, do you know these chicks?’ — to all your friends. Somebody would’ve told you, ‘Ah man, she got me last week.’ So Le’Veon Bell, man, this is like rookie mistake 101. He’s lived in Miami long enough to understand how this goes,” Scott said Thursday on his WFAN show, which he co-hosts with Chris Carlin and Maggie Gray.
“Who has $500,000 in jewelry? What is this, man? Do you have like a diamond-encrusted Atari? Like what’s going on? ‘Black Panther’ Wakanda forever chain?” he added.
“Come on, man, that was two summers ago. You’ve got to upgrade yourself, man,” Scott said.
“I’m going to need him to go ahead and get the Ring [home security] system. He should’ve had it for his closet and his safe. And he should’ve been saying, ‘Hey, get out of my stuff or I’m coming to get you!’ He’ll probably never get it back. They’re gone forever,” Scott said of the women, per NJ Advance Media.
Meanwhile, Bell is letting authorities handle the situation while he gets to know his new teammates, including second-year quarterback Sam Darnold.
Wednesday was Darnold’s 22nd birthday, though any hopes Bell had of throwing him a party were quickly shut down by the wise-beyond-his-years quarterback.
Sounds like Sam Darnold is not a party person ??♂️ He immediately shuts down LeVeon Bell about any celebration ideas!#Jets #NFL #JetUp

The Jets’ first preseason game will be against the Giants on Aug. 8. Bell’s first regular season action will come versus the Bills on Sept. 8.
