Leo Sayer. Name ring a bell?

The casual music fan may not recall this 70’s singer but those with a true appreciation for the…particular music styles of that decade, well those toes may instantly start to tap.

That’s because Sayer was an integral part of the music scene across the past forty years.

Here we have him with one of his biggest hits — “Long Tall Glasses.” It was released in 1974 and could be found on the “Just a Boy” album.

Watching this video is definitely a trip through time. Not just in the style of music but through Sayer’s stage presence as well.

His “dancing” and mannerisms are more in tune with a guy playing at a local pub as opposed to a world stage. That’s part of his appeal.

As a teen, Sayer tried to break into music but struggled to get past playing small gigs for little pay.

He returned home dejected and picked up work in a car factory.

Eventually, Sayer made his way back into music, but on the other side of the microphone.

He started writing songs with David Courtney, and soon discovered he had a talent for hits.

The pair wrote “Giving it All Away” for Roger Daltry, among other songs. Sayer, though, desired to sing his work himself.

Through hard work and a desire to perform, he made it back to the stage. He scored several top ten hits in his native England and then brought his talents to America.

In 1977 Sayer was awarded a Grammy award for his hit “You Make Me Feel Like Dancing.”

The next year he was named Best Male Artist by the British Pop and Rock awards.

Sayer is still out on the road, performing his classics along with some newer songs.

Keep an eye out and you just may be lucky enough to catch a show with this iconic 70’s performer.
