Last 'Legion of Boom' member Earl Thomas issues ultimatum to Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas, the last remaining member of the famed “Legion of Boom” defense, has an ultimatum for his team — re-sign me or trade me.
“Always been the underdog ain’t nothing new,” Thomas wrote in an Instagram post Monday. “Extend … if you don’t want me let’s make a trade happen. I understand it’s a bizz.”

Thomas, a six-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time first-team All Pro, has been one of the best safeties in the NFL throughout his eight-year career.
He’s been a fixture in the Seahawks defensive backfield, but now he is the last of the “Legion of Boom.” Kam Chancellor retired, Richard Sherman was released and signed by the 49ers, Cliff Avril retired, and Michael Bennett was traded to the Eagles, to summarize the fate of some of the last remaining members.
Thomas is in the last year of a four-year, $40 million contract he signed with the Seahawks in 2014. He is due to make $8.5 million this year but is looking for the Seahawks to offer him a contract extension.
Thomas did not attend minicamp last month. Training camp is set to open July 26.
In June, he posted on social media: “I will not be attending the upcoming mini-camp or any team activities until my contract situation is resolved. I want everyone especially the 12’s to know that I want to remain a Seahawks for the rest of my career, but I also believe that based on my production over the last eight years that I’ve earned the right to have this taken care of as soon as possible. I want to have certainty in regards to the upcoming years of my career. I’m going to continue to work my craft and put in work so that I can add to the team and give us the best chance to win. I hope my teammates understand where I’m coming from. I believe this is the right thing to do.”

Last season, Thomas had 88 tackles and two interceptions in 14 games.
The Instagram post references “29 LAVIBES,” which has led some to speculate that he wants to be traded to the Rams or Chargers. Thomas wears No. 29.
Cowboys fans are also hoping their team can land Thomas. He went to the University of Texas and is a native of the Lone Star State.

It seems the Seahawks have no interest in trading Thomas — at least that’s what they’ve indicated publicly.
“It’s not even a topic. It’s not even worth talking about. He’s our guy,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told reporters back in April.
