'Americas Grandpa': Trump Puts Smile on Little Girl's Face During Heartfelt Interaction

One day while filming 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, John Ritter complained of chest pains and vomiting. After voicing these complaints he went to the hospital across the street, and was diagnosed with a heart attack. It was later found that he had suffered an aortic dissection.

Once the true diagnosis was found, it was too late. Ritter died just six days later. The show continued for two more seasons, rebranding as 8 Simple Rules but received poor ratings without Ritter. The show was cancelled in 2006.
