Young Mother Surprises Parents with News of Acceptance to Medical School in Heartwarming Video
Teen pregnancy presents many challenges. Arguments have been made that having a baby at such a young age means one’s life is over.
No one is denying that pregnancy at any age is certainly life-changing. Any mom will attest to this very real truth.
Though challenging and life-changing, bringing new life into the world doesn’t mean giving up one’s dreams. It just means working that much harder to achieve them.
Limayre Mendoza knows the meaning of hard work better than anyone. At the age of 17 she became pregnant.
Despite the hard road ahead, Mendoza kept her baby, knowing hard work and determination would be her closest companions in the years to come.
Mendoza named her baby girl Gabriella — “Gabby” — and that little girl stayed by her mama’s side as she chased her goal of graduating college.
“Statistics said I wouldn’t,” Mendoza wrote on Facebook in 2016. “I said I could and you said I would. When doubt came and I said I could no more, all I had to do was look at you and I knew that I should. Tears, stress, and four years later .. WE DID.”
Their story gets even better, too! Mendoza dreamed of being a doctor, a huge feat for anyone, let alone a mom of young children.
Not only do Mendoza and her husband Adonay have two children now — their son Seth joined the family in 2017 — but this amazing mom was accepted to medical school. Her hard work paid off!
To tell her parents the big news, Mendoza decided to get little Gabby involved. Together, as in everything, they gave Gabby’s grandparents a fun surprise.
“I beat statistics when I graduated college after having a baby at 17,” the college grad shared on Facebook. “Now my 6 year old got to tell her abuelitos that mom is moving to Tulsa to become a doctor.”

What a fun way to break the news! According to KNBC, the grandparents — Sara and Jairo Gramajo — moved to Los Angeles from Guatemala over 3 decades ago.
