Woman Celebrates 105th Birthday, Nephew Says Secret to Long Life Is Praying and Reading
Birthdays never get old, no matter how old you get. Who doesn’t love a good party and an excuse to eat as much cake as you want?
One woman from San Antonio, Texas, knows all about birthdays. After all, she now has 105 of them behind her.
Minnie McRae — who will be 105 years of age as of March 26, 2019 — has a big family and boy, do they love to celebrate.
KSAT 12 reported that over 150 family members attended the birthday girl’s early celebration on Saturday, March 23.
“What a wonderful milestone,” Josie Rodriguez Mendoza wrote on Facebook. “She is such an inspiration to us all. God bless her always!”
Mendoza shared photos and video of the event, and several commenters not only wished Minnie a happy birthday, but made mention of her youthful appearance.
“Wow! She doesn’t look like 105 years old!” one person wrote. “God Bless her! Happy Happy Birthday Ma’am.”
“Wow!! She looks amazing for 105 years old. Happy Birthday Minnie!” another person noted. We couldn’t agree more. She looks so young!
Arturo Ayala, Minnie’s nephew, even flew all the way from Germany to be with his aunt for her momentous occasion.
When asked if he knew what the secret to her many years of life was, Ayala told KSAT, “She’s never shared it, but from my relationship with her, I see her always praying and … always reading.”
Praying and reading, eh? Maybe she’s on to something. Studies show that people who place their faith at the center of who they are have gone on to live long, fulfilling lives.
According to The Washington Post, a Yale University study also showed those who take time to pick up a book lived 2 years more than those who didn’t.
Of course, there were variables and a whole lot of scientist jargon involved, but we’re not going to argue! We support reading either way and if it helps us live longer, we’ll take that, too!
“She’s a blessing and she’s a miracle,” Ayala added, sharing that his aunt is the one who taught him to dance.
