Prince Harry and Pregnant Meghan Markle Break Guinness World Record

Share

The world of social media is a strange and complex place. Algorithms can be confusing, while follower count may drop for no apparent reason.

This, however, is not a problem celebrities seem to have. In fact, one dynamic duo recently opened their own Instagram account and it has already exploded — in a good way.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex can now be found on Instagram as @sussexroyal. As of Thursday morning, the couple has only posted three photos.

With such a minimal amount of content, one might wonder if they’re working on growing their following slowly. The truth is, they don’t have to.

As is expected, their royal names have preceded them. As of April 4, @sussexroyal has 3.5 million followers. According to Guinness, this one’s a record breaker.

On April 2, 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were crowned with the fastest time ever to reach 1 million followers on Instagram — it only took 5 hours and 45 minutes.

Will you follow @sussexroyal on Instagram?

Guinness reported that the previous record breaker was musician King Daniel who gained 1 million followers in January in just under 12 hours.

Previously, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could be followed via the Kensington Palace accounts on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, according to Insider.

After serving in the @BritishArmy for ten years, The Duke of Sussex has committed himself to promoting the welfare of members of the Armed Forces and veterans. The Duke knows the lasting effects military service can have, as soldiers recover from PTS after battle or struggle to get back into the normalities of civilian life. Through his work with servicemen and women, The Duke has also seen how families benefit from extra support when their loved ones are away and adjusting to life back home. He met many soldiers and their families at the Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch in London today. This is an annual event which raises money for @soldierscharity to support those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Duke’s work with wounded servicemen and women has included creating @weareinvictusgames, volunteering with the Army’s Personnel Recovery Unit in London, trekking with wounded servicemen and women to the South Pole and in the Arctic and supporting a number of adventure challenges through his Endeavour Fund. The Duchess of Sussex was unfortunately unable to attend today, but has joined her husband in supporting the troops at the Invictus Games, Endeavour Fund and with the TILS Fund, as an extension of her previous work in this space. By participating in events like today’s, The Duke hopes that servicemen and women are recognised for their unique skill set and abilities, and that we all work together to ensure that they and their families have the support they need and deserve during and after service.

Markle is due to give birth in late spring of this year, according to Town & Country. This makes the timing for their own account appropriate as they recently separated into their own household, Insider reported.

“Welcome to our official Instagram,” the first @sussexroyal Instagram caption reads. “We look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues.”

“We thank you for your support,” the post continues, “and welcome you to @sussexroyal. — Harry & Meghan”

We can’t wait to see all of their photos and updates. We have a feeling we will soon be seeing new baby photos, which of course means we’ll be stalking the account incessantly.

Do you follow the royal family? What do you think we can expect to see from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex now that they have their own social media?
