Police Officer Has Girlfriend Pulled Over, Stuns Her When He Drops to Knee and Pulls Out Ring

Share

No one likes being pulled over. Whether you’re breaking the law or not, a particular sort of anxiety creeps in whenever you pass a police car on the road.

Alexis McCart is no different. Though she’s been dating a police officer, the Georgia woman is not immune to feelings of panic when those bright lights start flashing.

When Officer Michael Peterson with the Lawrenceville Police Department pulled McCart and her friends over, only McCart had no idea that all was well — and her life was about to change forever.

“I was so nervous; I didn’t know what was going on,” McCart told the Gwinnett Daily Post. “Then (Peterson) got us out of the car, and I was like, ‘Why is he doing this? What is going on?’”

Her three friends had been in on the whole thing, of course. According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, McCart and her friends had been out to eat, but everything leading up to the traffic stop had been a mere distraction.

When McCart and her friends were asked to exit the vehicle, she was more confused than ever. The officer wished her a happy birthday, which had taken place the day before.

She didn’t understand how the officer knew her name or how he knew about her birthday. Then one of McCart’s friends handed her a gift — a gift addressed to “Mrs. Alexis Heart.”

John Heart is a police officer with the DeKalb County Police Department. He and McCart had been dating for four years, “Today” reported.

After McCart received the gift with her one-day married name on it, she turned around and there was Heart, on one knee, asking her to marry him.

“We’re pleased to announce she said YES and wish the happy couple all the best as they plan their wedding and embark on married life,” Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook. “In true cop fashion, they plan to wed on 10-4.”

For those who aren’t familiar with the police code, 10-4 is what one officer says to another to confirm a message came through.

“I honestly don’t know what he said,” McCart told WNYW. “He could’ve said anything in the world and all I heard was ‘marry me,’ and I couldn’t say ‘yes’ fast enough.”

“I just woke up this morning and saw my ring, and I still could not believe it,” she added. What a sweet proposal these two will no doubt remember forever.
