Officer Responding to Emergency Call Plays on Ground with Dolls To Help Keep Kids Calm

Share

Police officers often get a bad rap. But one officer from South Hill, Virginia, is a “superhero” in the eyes of the local children he has connected with.

Cpl. C.B. Fleming with the South Hill Police Department is one-of-a-kind.

“We locally call him the South Hill Batman,” Iesha Roper-Boswell told WTVR-TV.

Boswell has seen first-hand the difference Fleming has made in their community. On Valentine’s Day, when a gas leak was being investigated at her apartment complex, Boswell caught Fleming on camera doing what he loves.

Some kids were playing outside on the sidewalk during the potential emergency. Some girls were playing with dolls and some boys were coloring.

Rather than just go about his business, Fleming got down on the ground at the kids’ level. He played with them, an action that has gone viral since Boswell shared it on Facebook.

“We definitely need more cops like him!!!” Boswell wrote. “Thanks for taking the time out to play with the kids!!”

Do you know an officer like this one?

It would seem this is pretty normal behavior for the good cop, too. Many people have commented on what an amazing guy he is.

“He’s my favorite,” Bri Johnson said. “He used to come in McDonald’s and make my morning.”

Fleming, with a big heart as always, even replied to Johnson’s comment with one of his own.

“I just enjoyed being there seriously!!” he wrote. “Every morning y’all would make my day!!!”

It’s clear this man takes time to connect with those in his community.

“It’s something I’ve always tried to do,” Fleming told WTVR. “When I got into this job, I knew there was something different, other than just writing tickets and being the bad person all the time. I figured if I could be that bright spot in someone’s day then that’s all that mattered.”

Fleming has been with the department for 15 years. According to WTVR, his desire to serve his community started when he was just 13 when an officer like himself acted as a positive role model in Fleming’s life.

“I want everyone, not just the kids … but the moms and dads … to know that they can come to me,” he told the news outlet.

A heartwarming story and one that reminds us there truly are good men and women out there who serve our communities with pride and love.
