Officer Helps Calm Young Girl by Singing to Her in School Hallway

When someone stops and takes the time to show care and compassion for another human being, it makes all the difference.

That’s exactly what School Resource Officer Chris Morrison did for a special needs student at Herbert Slater Middle School in Santa Rosa, California.

Morrison was once a teacher, so she holds a special place for students in her heart. “She’s a very special soul,” Assistant Principal Jessica Romero shared with ABC News.

A special soul, indeed, and it was all caught on camera. Teacher Meaghan King — who was a Herbert Slater Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2014 — captured a moment between Morrison and a special needs student.

In the video, King explains this particular student was “having a hard time transitioning from the hallway to outside.” King can be heard behind the camera saying, “I’m gonna cry.”

Be warned now: we’re crying and we have a feeling you’ll be crying too after you watch how this resource officer showed so much love in this moment.

The student can be seen holding tight to a Kermit the Frog stuffed animal. If you’re familiar with the 1979 film “The Muppet Movie,” we’re betting you know what comes next.

Kermit is beloved by thousands, Miss Piggy included, and has made countless appearances in films and on television over the years. We think “Rainbow Connection” will forever remain his most recognized and timeless song.

We have a feeling Officer Morrison agrees. When she noticed the girl’s Kermit, Morrison knew just what to sing to help calm her.

Watch this heartwarming clip King shared on YouTube. There’s no doubt about it, these two certainly found a “Rainbow Connection” to remember.

“It’s typical of her with her personality,” Santa Rosa Police Sgt Jeneane Kucker shared with ABC News. “She’s just a very caring officer, person in general to go out of her way to assist a teacher with this child.”

We love Officer Morrison and applaud her kind heart! The time she took with this student is priceless and we’re sure she has many more moments like this off-camera. We know her community must be so grateful.
