Michael Bublé Overcome with Emotion Discussing Son's Cancer Battle During 'Carpool Karaoke'
Michael Bublé never fails to make us swoon with his suave voice. But there’s more to the singer/songwriter than his catchy tunes.
The “Everything” sensation has faced some personal battles, and none probably more trying than his son Noah’s fight against cancer.
The diagnosis came in 2016, when little Noah was only 3. Now the boy is 5 and though he’s in remission following surgery and chemotherapy, Bublé still gets emotional over all his family has been through.
James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” is known for its lighthearted, “feel good” vibes. Bublé’s appearance on “The Late Late Show” started off in good fun, but when Corden asked the musician about his son, the car got quiet.
“It’s so hard to have to acknowledge it, because it’s so painful to talk about…” he told Corden. “We got the diagnosis and that was it… my whole life ended.”
Both Corden and Bublé appeared to get emotional during the heart-to-heart talk. The singer got choked up and the host had red-rimmed eyes.
“Thank you, Jesus Christ,” Bublé said through his emotions, referring to his son pulling through. When Corden asked how Bublé kept his courage during that time, the singer answered through tears.
“…I’m not okay…” he admitted. “When they got it out and the chemo was done and they said, ‘We did it. He’s good. He’s okay.’ I fell, I just fell, and my wife picks me up now.”
He went on to open up about Noah’s love for superheroes like Spiderman and Superman. What he told Noah will touch your heart.
“They’re fake,” he said. “They’re not real. You’re a superhero. You’re MY hero. A real superhero.” Inspiring words coming from a dad who’s been through so much.
Bublé urged viewers to call and donate to the “Stand Up To Cancer” telethon.
“You think you’re one little person who can’t change, but all of us can completely, completely make that huge difference,” he said.
When Corden gave Bublé a heartfelt pat on the back, I got a little teary-eyed too. The song they ended with was perfect.
The lyrics to “Let Me Go Home” speak of what truly and deeply matters in life — being home with the ones you love.
“I feel a gratitude,” Bublé said in an interview with Reuters when sharing about Noah. “I feel I learned… what the word ‘grace’ meant to me.”
