Little Girl Reunited with 'Daddy Doll' After Good Samaritan Finds It in Parking Lot
Home for the holidays. It’s a common phrase we use. There’s no place quite like home, after all, so what better place to spend the merriest season of all?
Sadly, some people are not able to be with their loved ones during the most wonderful time of the year. Numerous men and women are deployed, sacrificing themselves for us while being away from their families.
This can be especially hard on children, of course. This is why Daddy Dolls was founded — to keep families connected.
Whether a child is missing a parent (not just dads, but moms, grandpas, and grandmas too) due to deployment, hospitalization, or even divorce, a “Daddy Doll” can be a way to make the missing just a little easier.
Five-year-old Emma Jones is living proof that these dolls really do make a difference. When she lost the Daddy Doll her father gave her before leaving for Afghanistan, the little girl was heartbroken.
“She was devastated, lots of tears,” Michelle Jones, Emma’s mom, told KTVK. Her daughter had dropped the doll in a parking lot after leaving a birthday party at a Dave & Buster’s in Phoenix.
They searched for the stuffed image of Emma’s dad, but he was nowhere to be found. They were sure they’d never see the doll again.
But, thankfully, a Good Samaritan saw the doll and grabbed it before someone could run over it — like he almost did! Carlos Diaz took to social media in search of the owner.
“Found this Daddy Doll pillow over the weekend in the Desert Ridge parking lot,” Diaz wrote on Facebook. “Was wondering if anyone knew how to find it’s owner. Staff Sgt. Jones – US Army.”
This is just one example of the many ways social media can be used for good. It took less than a week before Diaz was connected with Emma’s mom.
According to KTVK, Emma’s Daddy Doll was delivered right to her. Wow! And just in time for Christmas too!
“I always hug him as tight as I can and I really love him,” Emma told the news station. “So I always want to keep this everywhere I go. It means love.”
Yes, it seems it does. We’re so grateful Emma has her doll back. Well done, Mr. Diaz. You’ve certainly made this little girl smile again!
