Little Girl Asks Mom If She Can Give One of Her Presents to Less Fortunate Friend on Christmas
When we come to the end of the holiday season at the brink of a new year, a time of reflection makes us stop and think about the past.
We ask ourselves — were we kind enough? Did we give as much as we could have? Was there something more we should have done?
It can be easy to play the “enough” game. We might question whether the times we gave carried a lasting impact or not.
But if you really think about it and consider the times we were on the receiving end of random acts of kindness or selfless love, it’s really the simplest moments that make all the difference.
A phone call from a friend. A hug. A friendly greeting. A stranger paying for our groceries, our gas, our meal or coffee.
These are the snapshots we remember most. The snippets of smiles and gestures that make us feel as if someone is watching over us.
The Christmas season, in particular, comes to life through these acts of love. After all, what better way to show the “Reason for the Season” than to give?
One little girl from Indiana showed everyone what it means to get into the spirit of giving when she surprised her parents on Christmas morning.
Seven-year-old Raniyah was opening her gifts when she stopped and asked a question — could she give one of her gifts to a friend who may not have gotten anything? A Facebook post shared by her mom, Jamie M. Webster, told the entire story.
“She said, ‘Momma, can I take this to my friend, please? [I don’t know] if she got something or not.'” Her mom told her yes, and what happened next will melt your heart.
“I walked outside [and] she was already walking up to the house,” Webster wrote. “My daughter got a heart like her momma. Merry Christmas.”
The post has gone viral, with nearly 60K reactions in under a week at this time. Webster never expected her daughter’s kindness to receive so much attention.
“Niyah just wanted to make sure she got something,” Webster wrote in a follow-up post. “…we don’t need a reward… I just thought it was nice of her to take from herself on Christmas and give to someone…”
Nice, indeed. No doubt she’s made the nice list for life after this. Her compassion is something we don’t see every day, but this little girl will surely inspire others to give more all year round.
