Disney Surprise Backfires: Kids Have Meltdown After Learning There's No Trip to Grandma's
What kid wouldn’t love a visit to the “Happiest Place on Earth?” We’ve witnessed plenty of Disney surprises on social media, too.
Tears of joy seem to be the general consensus among those lucky kiddos who are surprised with the vacation of a lifetime.

Except for my younger sister, that is. When we were about 7 and 10 respectively, I distinctly remember getting into the car, fully believing we were going to visit my grandpa — “Papa” — for the day.
When our parents started driving in the opposite direction of Papa’s house, however, she started getting upset.
My parents then said something like, “Surprise! We’re going to Disneyland!” While I was overjoyed, my sister did not share in my excitement.
She began wailing, begging my parents to please turn around. I couldn’t understand her reaction. It’s not that I didn’t love my grandpa, but Disney was a once-in-a-year event for us. In my 10-year-old mind, we could see Papa any time.
It appears my sister is not alone in her belief that a day with grandpa or grandma trumps a day at the Magic Kingdom.

A viral video shared by Life of Mom on Facebook reveals that some kids really do love their grandma that much.
In the video, Mom is behind the camera. “We lied to you.” she says. “We are not going to grandma’s house.”
The kids clearly look stunned at this horrible turn of events. The little girl even gasps. When Mom proceeds to tell them the truth is even better, the kids can’t take their focus off the fact there will be no visit to grandma’s.
“We’re gonna still see grandma,” their mother reassures them over their tears. “Where do you think we’re gonna go?”
When she announces they’re headed to Disney, the sister begins jumping on the bed for joy. The brother, on the other hand, is having none of it.
Watch as he continues to throw a tantrum. I probably shouldn’t think this is funny. He’s having a fit, after all. Still, it is pretty hilarious.
The best part is when the little boy asks, “Why did you lie?!” His sister even comes down off her high, upset once more. Watching this was like reliving that day with my sister in the car all over again.
The video has over 11 million views to date. Commenters have flooded the video with heartfelt sentiments, too.
“My Grandma’s house was infinitely better than Disney!” one person wrote. “She cooked all my favorite foods… I miss her every day.”
Another person noted, “Sometimes parents just don’t get it… Grandma’s house is the ‘happiest place on earth!’ Save your $$$ & go to Grandma’s.”
Seems Disney isn’t number one to everyone, and rightfully so. I’ll bet the grandmother of these two children was touched by their reaction.
I hope my grandkids feel the same way about me someday. Of course, I’ll be the “Nana” who takes them to meet Mickey Mouse, so “World’s Best Grandma” will be a no-brainer.
