17 of the Most Heartwarming Proposal Videos

Share

The perfect marriage proposal is something many women dream about from the time they’re little girls.

They imagine the guy, the place, and, of course, the ring. Princess or pear cut? Yellow gold, white gold, rose gold — the possibilities are endless.

But we all know it’s not really about the ring or the location. Or, at least, it shouldn’t be. The perfect proposal should really be about two people who love each other and want to spend their lives together.

Grand gestures are all the rage, especially now that social media gives us the opportunity to display those gestures for thousands of views in return.

Some proposals are completely over the top, while others are simple. Some have been planned out, while others are totally spontaneous.

We all have our favorite proposal videos. We watch them for the same reason we watch our favorite romance films — love is infectious.

Simply put — we love LOVE. And if you love a good proposal, you’re going to LOVE my personal favorite, a “musical journey” featuring Anthem Lights.

Watch as Kristian Bell is guided through a music studio setting. She thinks she’s supposed to be an extra in a music video directed by her boyfriend, Carl.

Instead, this young woman receives the surprise of her life. You won’t be able to hold back the waterworks if you watch until the end.

I’m a sucker for all things musical. I could watch that proposal again and again. But you might be surprised to learn that marriage proposals didn’t always include kneeling or a ring.

Back in the day, marriages were arranged by the father of the bride-to-be. And, according to Reader’s Digest, the tradition of offering an engagement ring was introduced by the Romans.

It’s a tradition that stuck around, but even then kneeling wasn’t always a common gesture. An article on Bustle noted that kneeling may have originated in the Middle Ages, or it could have been birthed out of the 19th century.

Wherever it came from, it seems to be a sweet sign of respect and affection, in my opinion. An outward action showing you are putting the other person before yourself.

If you agree, you will adore this video from AFV which features 17 unique proposals. Some will make you laugh, while others will cause you to tear up.

Some even begin as a practical joke! However they begin, all end in smiles, hugs, and heartfelt acceptance.

Which one is your favorite? I’m partial to the ones in which the guy acts as if he’s injured, while really he’s coming up with an excuse to get down on one knee.

These couples are all so sweet. I hope they’ve continued to love each other as much as they so clearly did on the day they agreed to say, “I do.”
