Puppy Miraculously Recovers After Man Cuts Off His Leg and Throws Him in River

Dog rescue organization Hope For Paws was on the receiving end of a shocking emergency call in 2015. Though the incident occurred several years ago, the video is still one of their most popular at over 17 million views.

The video states that the heartbreaking phone call was from volunteers with an L.A.-based charitable organization who had stumbled across a suffering puppy stranded in a riverbed.

The brave little dog, who was missing a leg, had been the victim of vicious abuse.

According to the video shared by Hope for Paws, an eyewitness reported that a homeless man had cut off the puppy’s leg and thrown him 30 feet to huddle helplessly in a canal.

Against all odds, the puppy survived alone for days, albeit in obvious pain, before someone noticed and called in help.

By the time Eldad Hagar with Hope for Paws arrived on scene, the puppy was in very rough shape.

“Oh, you don’t look good,” Hagar said as he approached the puppy. “He’s in so much pain.”

He gave the dog a reassuring pat before rescuers carefully loaded the puppy into a basket. Although the puppy never barked, he can be heard whimpering throughout the rescue effort.

Rescuers gently raised the puppy to higher ground, where bystanders received him with open arms. They raced the puppy to an emergency veterinary clinic, where he was given proper medical care.

The doctors were astonished to learn the puppy had survived such brutality. They dubbed his survival “a miracle,” according to the rescue video.

Veterinarians soon discovered the injured puppy suffered from “mange, bacterial infections and malnutrition” in addition to his obvious leg injury. The puppy received a blood transfusion and, after four days, underwent surgery.

Just a few days after surgery, the dog had overcome all odds and was playing like a puppy should. After his stitches were removed, he celebrated with a piece of mango cake.

The puppy, lovingly named “Jordan,” was sent to live with a foster family. There, he enjoyed bonding with his canine sisters, Lola and Frankie. The two older dogs cared for him like a little brother as he endured the healing process.

Jordan is completely undaunted by his handicap. According to Hope For Paws, Jordan runs, swims and plays tug-of-war with his family, just like his foster sisters.

Physical therapy played an important part in helping Jordan acclimate to life after his devastating injury.

Jordan has since been adopted, and now lives with another dog and a guinea pig. His owners have created a Facebook page for him so that his fans can keep up with all his shenanigans.

“Some of you might be sick of my postings about Jordan, but I will never forget the video of him sitting on the chips bag down in the wash…a puppy who had just gone through so much cruelty at the hands of a sick person,” his owner posted on Facebook.

“Most of you don’t know the full story and trust me, you don’t want to know it. But I know it. And I will always be thankful to those people involved in giving Jordan a chance. He was a total and absolute mess that day, suffering and left for dead.

“But you see him now and he’s so full of life, full of love and forgiveness,” his owner continued. “Animals have an amazing ability to forgive, I wish us humans could be a bit more like them.”

He’s a far cry from the trembling bag of skin and bones that Hagar first saw — he almost looks like a different dog now.

Although Jordan’s past is heartbreaking, he’s gotten his second chance, thanks to Hope For Paws and the brave bystanders who came to his rescue!
