Gender Reveal Goes Wrong Outside Wrigley Field When Wife Throws Pitch a Little Too High
A lot of things in life require tightly coordinated teamwork. Baseball is one example, and parenting is another.
You might suppose those two things are as far apart as hot dogs and apple pie. But just outside Chicago’s celebrated Wrigley Field, they recently collided in hilarious style.
Since its official naming in 1927, this venerable venue has been a fixture for devoted Cubs fans. Wrigley Field’s ivy-covered outfield walls have witnessed everything from first dates, to festive marriage proposals, to family reunions.
So cultural trends are often on clear display around the park affectionately known as the “Friendly Confines.”
One current craze involves the joyous announcement of an impending birth, through some type of cute-and-creative gender reveal.
Twitter user Jeffrey Habjan happened to be walking by as an expectant couple employed a baseball motif to share their wonderful baby news.
“So glad I stopped to film it,” noted Habjan’s subsequent post — and a highly-amused social media audience is pretty grateful, too.
The couple, decked out in classic Cubs jerseys, decided that Mom would pitch a powder-filled “ball” to Dad. He’d swing triumphantly and presumably hit it, thus proclaiming their gestating baby’s gender in a colorful poof of either pink or blue.
The result was, so to speak, a bit of a curveball. The pitch arc was slightly high — or more accurately, about a foot over the husband’s head.
In fact, the ball was so far out of the strike zone that Dad gave up on the bat altogether. He frantically shifted into catcher mode but missed at the very last second.
The crowd, as they say, went wild. And from there, things went a little south.
Basically, blue powder exploded all over the sidewalk. So the message itself was successfully conveyed — even though the execution wasn’t quite a home run.
Here’s wishing the happy couple hearty congratulations as they prepare to welcome a beautiful baby boy. With any luck, when it comes to helping the little guy develop his throwing arm, Dad will be the one to teach him.
