Watch Dad and Daughter's 'A Star Is Born' Duet: Dad's Face Beams with Pride When She Sings

Share

In 2018, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga made headlines with their highly successful remake of “A Star Is Born” and its equally popular soundtrack.

The film is the third adaptation of the original story and, like the previous two movies, delves into several complex topics, such as emotional abuse, depression and suicide. It’s easy to see that this is a story that continues to resonate with viewers.

However, perhaps even more impressive than the success of the film is the success of its soundtrack.

In particular, Cooper and Gaga’s hit duet “Shallow” made a lengthy run at the top of the charts in 2018 and went on to win the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 91st Academy Awards.

The ballad represents a turning point in the film, as Gaga’s character accepts her role as a proper musician and joins Cooper’s character onstage to perform the tune. The song captivated listeners instantly and inspired dozens of popular covers.

One such performance was especially sweet.

In March, aspiring singer and songwriter Autumn Gillispie performed the song with her father, Randy Gillispie, in their living room. The resulting Facebook video quickly went viral.

Like Lady Gaga’s character in the film, Autumn’s vocal talent is immediately apparent from the first note, as is her father’s heartwarming pride as he watches her sing.

Autumn told Liftable, a section of The Western Journal, that she began exploring music when she was a little girl; she performed worship songs as early as the age of 4. Her father told Liftable that he also has a background in worship music.

In the video, it is evident that Gillispie himself is completely captivated by Autumn’s voice as he mouths the words along with her.

The family told Liftable that the viral duet is “just the beginning” for Autumn’s career. Over the course of the past few weeks, they have made visits to Nashville where she worked alongside some of the top producers and songwriters in Music City.

Gillispie described her sound as a mixture of country and pop, citing major influences, such as Carrie Underwood and Ariana Grande. The teenager said she “definitely wants to take it professionally.”

The 14-year-old has written three original songs already and hopes to continue growing as an artist in the future.

When asked what it has been like to be a part of this journey with his daughter, Gillispie’s response was both heartwarming and humble.

“Getting the opportunity to sing with her is an honor because she’s so good,” Gillispie said. “When you get to hear that every night sitting in the living room, basically a mini-concert, it’s really crazy. It’s something everyone should hear. And hopefully, they get to.”

Autumn’s mother, Aimee Gillispie, told Liftable that Autumn is scheduled to appear on “Pickler & Ben” on April 15.
