Woman Changes Diet Instead of Weight Loss Surgery, Barely Recognizable 3 Years Later

Share

There are aspects of our bodies that we all dislike, right? For instance, despite exercising regularly and maintaining a good diet, I have a neck that’s lengthy enough to make a giraffe jealous — and there’s not a blessed thing I can do about it.

But now-24-year-old Tennessee resident Laura Micetich saw something she didn’t like about her body back in 2014, and she went and changed it. See, at that point in her life, she tipped the scales at over 300 pounds.

“I decided to take charge of my life and make a change,” she said. “After trying and failing to get a handle on my health numerous times, my weight had become a serious enough concern that I was considering weight loss surgery.”

She wasn’t kidding. Micetich had learned from her doctor that she was suffering from high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, and prediabetes.

Distraught and depressed, the recent college graduate decided to give healthy living one more try before making an appointment with the surgeon’s scalpel. She hit the local gym — and discovered that she loved it.

“It only took a few weeks for me to realize that I didn’t need to go under the knife,” she said. “I needed to get under the bar.”

What Micetich cut proved every bit as important as what she lifted. She decided to dump processed sugar, eating out at restaurants, alcohol, and junk food.

Her lifestyle investment paid healthy dividends indeed, and she lost almost all of her excess weight in the first 10 months. And that was only the start of her journey.

She said, “In the first year, I shed more than 100 pounds without surgery and significantly changed my unhealthy habits. I am now health issue free and my life has changed for the better with the simple realization that what we want and what we do are completely in our own control.”

Micetich has since founded her own website, The Iron Giantess Life, where she sells training programs and blogs about her experience.

She also has an Instragram account that (as of press time) has 342,000 followers.

“Almost four years ago, ‘I can do it’ met ‘I should do it’ and lightning struck,” she wrote. “Magic happened.
