Stray Dog Saves 10 Puppies by Refusing To Stop Barking Until Help Arrives
We all encountered “that dog” before, haven’t we? You know the kind I’m talking about, the yappy sort of canine that just won’t be quiet.
Though it’s never fun to run into such a pooch in the wee hours, an incessantly barking dog is never fun. We inevitably find ourselves unable to concentrate, searching for earplugs and wondering why someone won’t shut the creature up.
Of course, sometimes a dog barks because it’s poorly trained. But sometimes it ends up howling for far more important reasons.
In 2015, a rescue group known as Dallas DogRRR discovered an unnamed stray in a city park. According to Lancaster Online, rescuers had noted the dog’s presence for several weeks.
They’d done their best to try and catch him. However, the wily pooch had slipped away from them each and every time.
The rescuers had noticed something else, too. They’d noticed the dog running around with another dog — a female who would later become known as Mona.
One day, though, the unknown pooch showed up and started acting strangely. He began to bark — and he wouldn’t stop.
Marina Tarashevsce, who was leading the volunteer rescue group, said, “He’s never acted like that before, and I was worried that maybe he was sick or something … happened to him.” He also wouldn’t go away.
She told Fox News, “It wasn’t just a regular bark. He just wouldn’t stop and it sounded like he was in distress of some sort.”
A dog behaviorist named John Miller was with the group. He said to Tarashevsce, “I bet you he’s trying to get you to following him.”
That was exactly what he was trying to do. Every time Miller and Tarashevsce would approach him, he would run forward, stop and continue to bark.
They followed him through a thickly wooded section of the park down to a muddy creek bed. Huddled there beside a fire-hollowed tree was Mona — and 10 newborn puppies.
“I had suspected that [Mona was] pregnant, so that’s why I followed him,” Tarashevsce said. “I still can’t believe it, that he actually led me to the puppies.”
“But I’m so thankful because we wouldn’t have found them otherwise.” It’s even more amazing considering that Mona and the pups probably wouldn’t have made it if left on their own.
Dallas DogRRR took all of them in. In fact, the organization kept them all together in the same foster home.
Oh, and that brave barking dog now has a new name. They call him Hero.
