Owner Records Hilarious Moment She Realizes Her Cat Hates It When She Sings
Even the most avid cat lovers will likely admit that felines are odd creatures. Given to flights of athletic silliness followed immediately by moments of utmost dignity, kitties can do all sorts of silly things.
Sometimes they attempt impossible jumps that they spectacularly fail. Sometimes they sneak treats in the most devious ways.
Sometimes they freak out over absolutely nothing at all. And sometimes they love to pounce on their owners for seemingly spurious reasons.
Consider a black-and-white American Shorthair who goes by the name of Helen. She even has her own Instagram account under the handle @ohreally_helen.
After watching videos of Helen in action, you understand why she has that account name. It seems that the cute black-and-white kitty has strong opinions about how the world should work.

Helen’s owner filmed herself singing a number of popular songs. They included selections by Chance the Rapper, Vampire Weekend, Kygo and Lord Huron. She even croons the soundtrack to “West Side Story” and the oh-so-popular children’s ditty “Baby Shark.”
The style doesn’t matter much to Helen, though. As soon as her owner begins to sing, she races into action.
At times, the energetic kitty straddles her owner’s face. She might bat her in the back of the head.
Other times, Helen simply vaults right over her (once almost upsetting her owner’s laptop). The cat has nipped at her owner’s face or batted her cheeks with her paws.

Helen has even hit her owner with a flying leap. They’re hits that probably feel akin to what NFL wide receivers take on a regular basis.
But no matter her means of attack, Helen has one goal in mind: She wants to stop her owner’s singing — right now.
Helen’s owner decided to capitalize on her kitty’s odd behavior around singing and has garnered almost 9,000 followers to the cat’s Instagram. Whenever she tries a new ditty, she adds Helen’s imaginary commentary as a caption.
One of the earliest posts reads, “I keep trying to tell her she’ll NEVER be @chancetherapper. Give up already!”
Adding a little snark to her commentary on Maria’s iconic song “I Feel Pretty” from “West Side Story,” Helen says, “Listen, take this constructively. But you’d be, like, so much prettier if you just didn’t open your mouth.”
Why does the cat react so strongly to the sound of her owner’s voice? It could be something to do with the feline’s anatomy.
The Spruce Pets highlighted just how well cats can hear. In fact, they can perceive sound waves at ranges more than twice those audible to humans.
Author Franny Syufy wrote, “Cats’ ears are uniquely designed to draw sound into the ear canal, which enables them to hear an array of distant sounds — like a mouse rustling in the bush 30 feet away. By the same token, their ears are more sensitive to the higher amplitude of the sound.”
Or it could be that Helen has a different perspective on life. In one of her posts, she said, “They say, ‘Don’t bite the hand that feeds you’ and I say, ‘They are wrong.’
“Instill fear, get food. Those are the words I live by.”
