John Stamos Becomes Father at 54, Meaning Behind Son's Name Could Not Be More Perfect

No one would deny that John Stamos has enjoyed a storied career. The always photogenic actor made waves with his first appearance on the screen in the soap opera “General Hospital,” a role that earned him a Daytime Emmy.

He most known for his role on “Full House” as the hair-obsessed, perpetually-wild Jessie. But despite that image, an image that has seemed to cling to him over the years, the Stamos of today seems anything but irresponsible — especially given his most recent announcement.

“From now on, the best part of me will always be my wife [Caitlin McHugh] and my son,” he wrote on Instagram.

The announcement was accompanied by a picture of a tiny baby on the actor’s chest gripping his ring finger.

The 54-year-old Stamos hasn’t been shy about his desire to become a father.

Last year, he gave a candid interview to “People,” in which he said, “I always wanted to be a dad… People say, ‘Oh, you look young.’ You start believing you’re gonna live to be 150.

“And then you wake up and go, ‘No, man, this is it. This is not a rehearsal.’”

Stamos admitted that a lack of personal maturity dragged him down over the years and that his father’s steadfastness kept him tethered to reality. Sadly, his dad died in 2001, and his mother followed in 2014.

“It kills me that my parents aren’t here to be part of this, but I know it probably wouldn’t be happening if they weren’t up there,” he said.

“You know how you put your father on a pedestal, and he’s a superhero, and then as you grow older, you go, ‘Ah, he’s just a man’?

“I never got to that point. Till the day he died, he was bigger than life to me.”

That’s why the name Stamos chose to give his son is so awesome. “Welcome Billy Stamos (named after my father),” he wrote.

For her part, McHugh thinks her hubby will make a great father, stating, “The look on John’s face when I told him we were pregnant was priceless. It was the look of a man who has wanted a family of his own but wasn’t sure it was going to happen for him. Now it is!”
