4 Months After Toddler's Tragic Death, Bode Miller & Wife Welcome Little Baby Boy to Family
Can there be any worse horror for a parent than the death of a child? Virtually all of us would rather face our own demise — and a bad one, at that — rather than have our sons or daughters perish.
It’s not just that they’re our own flesh and blood, our very legacy. Certainly that’s part of it.
But there’s something so fragile about a child. We strive to protect them, and when we can’t, it shatters our very souls.
That’s exactly what happened in the case of the Miller family. At first glance, former Olympian Bode Miller seemed to have everything the world would want.
A loving family. Professional success. Personal achievement. Yet on June 10, tragedy struck.

According to People, 19-month-old Emeline Grier Miller drowned in a pool. Morgan Beck Miller would later tell USA Today that the accident occurred when she and the children were visiting a neighbor.
“We’re in mid-conversation, and I stood up,” she said. “And I turned, and I went right to where the boys were, and I said, ‘Where’s Emmy?’”
Then she saw something that would stop every parent’s heart. A line of bright light shone from between a door and its doorjamb.
The toddler had made her way outside and tumbled into the pool. Morgan recalled running outside, seeing her floating child, and plunging into the water.
Paramedics soon arrived and started trying to revive little Emeline. She was later transferred to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Since the drowning, the Millers had made it their mission to inform other parents about the very real risk bodies of water pose to little lives. They’ve shared raw photos, including one that showed Morgan cradling an intubated Emeline.
“There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t pray for the opportunity to go back to that day and make it different. But now we have this opportunity to make other parents’ days different,” Morgan stated.

Her husband added, “[Drowning is] the number-one way that you could potentially lose your kid. And if it’s number one for me, I want to know about it.”
This month, they’ve also enjoyed a spot of brightening during those gloomy times. E! News reported that the couple welcomed a baby boy into the world on October 5.
The couple have another 3-year-old son together. They also share two children between them from previous relationships.
Nothing can take away the pain of a little one’s death. But we pray that this new life gives them both a measure of comfort.
