Teenager Buys All the Cupcakes at Bakery After Rude Customer Body-Shames Her
On March 31, 19-year-old Vega Blossom went to her favorite bakery, Designer Desserts, to buy six cupcakes during their Easter sale. While in line, the woman in front of her was waiting on a cake.
Blossom quickly noticed an older woman and her friend behind her loudly making rude comments about how long the woman at the front of the line was taking.
Finally, the woman at the front had her cake, and Blossom stepped up to the counter to place her order.
But that’s when she heard the women behind her make an incredibly rude comment — and this time, it was about Blossom.
“Let’s hope this fat b**** doesn’t buy all the cupcakes,” the woman sneered.
Blossom was visibly hurt by the comment as she began to place her order.
“When I heard the nasty things the women said, I honestly wanted to cry,” she said. “It really hurt my feelings.”
Blossom was shocked by how unashamed the women were to fat-shame her.
“How could these grown women be so mean to someone they’ve never met, let alone talked to?” she continued.
“Growing up [as] a chubbier girl, I always got snide comments about my weight from people who, for some reason, think it’s their business.
“Things like this usually wouldn’t bug me, but the fact that I didn’t know these women, and they said this so rudely and loudly — so I could obviously hear it — was different than other times.”
But then she decided how she was going to respond. She walked up to the register and ordered every single cupcake the bakery had.
The women continued to mock Blossom as she paid $54 for the 20 mega-sized cupcakes, each the size of three normal cupcakes.
Bakery staff also heard the unacceptable things the women said about Blossom’s weight, and made sure to give her extra cookies and chocolates for free.
On her way out of the bakery, Blossom also made sure to ask the women if they could help her open the door.
“I looked the pair straight in the eye and asked, ‘Could you please open the door for me? My hands are a bit full,” she explained.
“Reluctantly, one woman held the door open before following me outside. I think, if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
Blossom shared her treats with her friends, family, and coworkers. Later that night, she took to Facebook to share her experience, and it went viral, racking up nearly 80,000 likes and 25,000 shares.
As word began to spread about Blossom’s encounter at Designer Desserts, the bakery itself caught wind of the situation and decided to take action.
In the following days, the bakery surprised Blossom with cupcakes delivered to her work so show their support.
“Two days in a row now Designer Desserts-Valparaiso has delivered me cupcakes to work and i am honestly so thankful for these guys and everything they have done for me,” Blossom wrote on Facebook.
But Designer Desserts did not stop there. They also posted on their own Facebook page, letting customers know that bullying of any kind will not be tolerated in their business.
“This morning a very unsettling occurrence was brought to my attention,” the bakery wrote. “Designer Desserts-Valparaiso is a BULLY FREE ZONE and WILL NOT TOLERATE these disgusting types of attitudes.”
“My sincere apologies go out to this beautiful young woman, and I cannot thank her enough for being such a loyal and amazing customer, we will be seeing you very soon.”
Blossom’s story is a strong reminder that words can truly be hurtful. Thankfully, there are kind people in the world still willing to brighten someone’s day and show them the respect every person deserves.
