Woman Finds Starving, Emaciated Dog Wandering Roadside with Fractured Leg
Found on the brink of death in Romania, a young dog named Vlad has gone from emaciated and lonely to strong and loved, traveling halfway around the world to his forever home in Arizona.
Vlad was initially found by a team of animal rescuers from Howl Of A Dog in Romania. The small non-profit regularly places abandoned dogs in forever homes, nursing them back to health and saving them from a life on the streets.
When the rescue team first spotted Vlad, they knew his situation was dire. He appeared to be injured, evidenced by a limp in his front leg, and was dangerously skinny.
“We pulled over and rushed toward him, trying to stop him from going any further into the thick bushes,” Howl Of A Dog rescuers wrote on YouTube.
“He was so desperate and the moment he saw us he seemed to have instantly realized we’re there to help him.”
With some gentle coaxing, Vlad limped out of the thicket, bearing weight on just three legs. It soon became apparent that the dog had also not eaten in a long time.
“He was so hungry when we found him that he desperately grabbed a box of tissues we had in the car and tried to eat them,” rescuers said.
A medical exam revealed what rescuers had suspected: Vlad’s front leg was broken.
The veterinarian estimated the break to be around a week old, meaning the dog had likely endured seven painful, lonely days and nights trying to survive with a broken leg.
The double fracture would require surgery, involving metal plates and screws to hold the bone in place.
Fortunately, Vlad’s surgery was successful and the first major step towards his healing.
“The procedure was a complicated one, but everything went well and Vlad made a beautiful recovery,” the rescuers wrote.
With his physical pain under control, Vlad began to rest, safe and warm at last, in the arms of humans who loved him.
It was not long before Vlad was ready for an adoptive home, which turned up in the unlikely place of Phoenix, Arizona.
He flew 6000 miles from Vienna, Austria, to Los Angeles, California, where he met his new owner, Curt.
Curt whisked Vlad into his car and drove across the state until he reached Phoenix, showing Vlad all the new sights and surroundings of his very new environment.
Vlad appeared to take it all in with excitement, meeting his new fur sibling and learning the art of sunbathing by the pool.
“Vlad has now the loving home that he had longed for and the most caring dad,” Howl Of A Dog proudly said.
