Touching Tribute to Carrie Fisher in New Star Wars Film Made with Blessing from Daughter

Share

If you’re anything like me, you still follow Star Wars because you loved the original cast — Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and your favorite droids.

When the new Star Wars trilogy was released, you watched with joy as Leia Organa’s face flashed onto the big screen. And in 2016, you were heartsick to hear the news that Fisher, 60, had suddenly passed away.

The world lost one of its favorite people, and Star Wars fans were especially saddened to picture the end of Organa’s legacy before its due time.

But Episode IX director JJ Abrams released some unexpected and thrilling news about the final Star Wars installment in 2019: Carrie Fisher will be included.

“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher,” Abrams said in a statement.

“Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us,” he continued. “We were never going to recast, or use a CG (computer-generated) character.”

Abrams approached Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, with an idea that would honor Fisher’s iconic contribution to the film series.

Lourd agreed, giving Abrams the green light to proceed.

“With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII,” Abrams said, referring to “The Force Awakens,” the first film of the latest trilogy.

Abrams also released the names of some other characters that old school fans will be excited to see. Namely Billy Dee Williams, now 81, who will return as Lando Calrissian.

Anthony Daniels, who plays the android C-3PO, and Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, will also be featured in the final film.

Disney and Lucasfilm announced that “Star Wars: Episode IX” is set to release on December 20, 2019.

Filming is set to begin in London on August 1.

Meanwhile, Fisher’s daughter Lourd, 26, is paving her own way in Hollywood.

The actress has spoken openly and beautifully about the life and death of her mother, and her grandmother Debbie Reynolds who died just days after Fisher.

Lourd has stated her hopes that Fisher’s untimely death will help other families struggling with drug addiction and mental health get help before its too late.
